| strange treat behavior....haha I don't think Remy realizes that you are supposed to EAT treats Everytime I give him a treat or something to chew on as a reward or just in general, he runs around with it in his mouth for awhile and eventually goes and buries it somewhere-like, couch cushions, under pillows, under rugs, corners, in his bed etc...is this weird? I find dog treats and bones EVERYWHERE in my house. Does anyone elses furbaby do this and if so, will he eventually learn that he doesn't have to hide his treats? silly lil' guy

| Callie does something very similar - sometimes she eats the treats, as is the intention, but often times she plays with them, throws them around, growls at them, runs around the house with them in her mouth. The uneaten ones generally end up in the bed in the living room, I think she saves them for later Right now theres 4 little ones waiting for her, a midnight snack perhaps. Dogs are goof balls!

| I have found that Sassy eats up right away those that she loves. The ones that she likes or isn't overly enthuastic about are the ones that she buries. In the couch cushions, under things and in her blankies. When I first got her she made me laugh a lot watching her try to "push the carpet" over her treat that she was trying to hide. She would keep trying, over and over. LOL Now she hides them any and every where. Would that be the Yorkie equivalent of "saving for a rainy day"? Last edited by sammiz; 05-28-2008 at 08:27 PM. |

| We get bully sticks buried a lot over here, usually under throw blankets or in the doggie beds. I make the mistake of thinking they're all gone and I go buy a few more, only to find the OLD ones surface again. I actually think it's cute, they really work at it, nosing the blankets around like mad. |

| Hot Rod does the same thing. He can't gobble his Zuke's treats up fast enough but when I give him a biscuit, he just drops it somewhere and starts burying it. He doesn't even really try to eat it. It was funny, we went thru the back drive thru window and the teller sent a treat back (I had to chuckle-this was my first experience with this as he is my first dog) but Hot Rod just buried it in the corner of his seat! I forgot about the treat and the next time we got in the car...he pulled it from 1 spot and buried it to another! I finally threw it out...I could tell if he was saving it or trying to get rid of it.

| With Pumpkin, it's like clockwork. I know exactly which treats she will eat right away and which ones she will bury. However, I have noticed that it seems the size of the treat has a lot to do with it. Most of the treats that she buries, if I break it into real small pieces, she will eat them right there. But if I give her the treat whole, she starts running around the house trying to find a good spot to bury it. Sometimes I think when I give the bigger ones to her she says "I don't have the energy to break this thing to little pieces to eat...I'll save it for later when I have a treat drought." |

| I have a Jack Russell named Mikey who does the same thing. He buries his treats everywhere and then goes back later to get them; he knows right where every one of them is. He is hilarious to watch. One time my daughter got one of his treats and showed it to him and his eyes got huge ... like he was saying "how did you find that"!! It was too funny.
