| Changing a 5 year old's name? 1 more quick question before we hit the road: Can you change a 5 year old Yorkie's name? Well, I mean, can you change it, and have the Yorkie recognize that this is it's name? I ask b/c the Yorkie we're looking at is named Bimbo. She's a total doll and all, but I'm afraid she might get a little insecure up here being called that all the time. ;D I'd like to change it to something a little more modest for her suburban life. Is this at all possible? Those of you who have taken in older dogs, have you successfully accomplished this?

| I can see why you want to change her name.. Yes a dog will relearn a new name as long as you reward them everytime you call them with the new name...they don't work for free...

| Congratulations on your new little one. Yes, I think I'd change her name. I don't think I'd want to be shouting "here Bimbo". Maybe something that sounds similar like Bambie or Barbie or ????.

| Changing Yorkie name Hi there! I have to say from experience that this can be done! We adopted (was given to us) our first Yorkie when she was five years old. Her name at the time was "Precious" and given my husband wasn't crazy about getting a little dog and that he would be home with her during the day, we changed her name to "Jessie". Sadly, unbenknownst to us, she had a heart condition when we got her and she passed last July., when she was only 9. Jessie was the most "precious" dog, truly an angel. She not only went EVERYWHERE with us but she became "Daddy's buddy" and "Mommy's baby". She adapted to her new name almost immediately! Because we fell in love with her we now have a 10mnth old "Willow" and 3 month old "Jake". It can be done!! |

| We got a 3 yr old dog once named Sea Bass as in the fish??? We changed his name to Sheamas. It can be done. But if the name you want is very different then use a double barrel name for a while eg Bimbo-Kizzy then swap them round after a short while; Kizzy-Bimbo then when she is used to it just drop the name Bimbo!

| Thanks so much, everyone! That's definitely good news to hear before we head down! I'll be thinking of a new name while I'm on the road. Goodness knows I have almost 14 hours of driving just to get there. If I can't figure something out in that time, then there must be something wrong with me. Ok.....we're out the door. Thanks again!
