| Edie has to go on a DIET!! We went to the vet yesterday for a checkup and she weighed 8.25 lbs. Up from 7.5 last year! Edie is not a big-boned girl, so this is definitely too much for her. In fact (this really hurt), the vet said her body was SHAPED LIKE A FOOTBALL! I have been free-feeding, but it's got to stop. I am going to have to figure out how to restrict her food without restricting Breezy, my Westie, who is at a healthy weight. Any tips? |

| A good idea is if you are feeding her treats, that would probably have to stop. And decreasing her food intake would help. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Joey had to go on a diet after we completed a tricks training class. The vet said that green beans helps in filling up their tummies without too many calories. I give him half his normal breakfast and dinner with the dinner supplemented with green beans. Joey has returned to a healthy weight and we are continuing this diet because his weight is now stable. I use the frozen green beans microwaved for a minute, and I use his breakfast meal for training. It will be harder for you since you don't know exactly how much she was eating before. I think I would just feed them in different rooms, no need to free feed once they are past 8 months.

| Tricksie is up to 9 lbs. So now I feed her 1/3 cup twice a day also mixed with the frozen green beans, not canned, there is too much sodium. Yes, I also would feed them in different rooms. Good Luck, it is hard to cut down on treats even though she has healthy ones.

| I got the same news from my vet last week. My "little" Halo tips the scales at 13.2! It's really hard to control the eating when there are 5 eating at the same time. The green beans are a good tip, I'll have to use that one. Also, I didn't realize the frozen ones are better for them that the canned ones. Good luck with your diet, we're all gonna need it!

| Maybe it's an AZ thingy My Mom has a little "football" too She homecooks for hers and I have told her to cut out the carbs, so she has been using ground turkey and veggies (mostly water veggies). I know its hard b/c it is so darn hot there that's the 'exercise' isn't really capable. |

| I took Lucy for her yearly vaccinations a couple of weeks ago and was holding my breath about her weight. At her last visit, she weighed 13 lbs even. This time, she weighed 11.9 oz. Our vet was thrilled! He said most of the time people don't listen to him when he tells them their baby is chunky and that it's as bad for a dog to be obese as it is for a human. His suggestions have worked for us: No treats from the table, measure the food out twice daily, and dog treats only in tiny amounts. I use YorkieYummies from ChattiesMom. Lucy and Rebel both love them and they're small enough that I don't worry about giving them too much at a time. They get 2 each when I leave every morning for work and 2 in the evening when we're playing.
