kind of a 'no duh' thing, but be very careful using anything to get rid of mice or bugs. or when taking them to other peoples houses who dont have animals. just make sure theres nothing out, that they can get into that can harm them. my 2 1/2 yearold yorkie, chester, got a hold of a ant/roach repellent thing (the plastic ones you put like under your couch and stuff) at my grandparents house and has to be rushed to the vet because of the stuff in it. (thank god hes fine) |

Best investment so far my Buddy lookout car seat!!!! not only i feel so much safer with them in the back secured and not on my lap holding on to every bump, turn, stop etc but just they seem more relaxed traveling now... i trully recommend it!!!! 100% besides here in CA its the law or will be pretty soon to have ur pets secured.... |
watch out for gum!!! any sugarfree gum is horrible, but most importantly gum with xylitol in it is very toxic!! |
hot surface the ground gets hot out here in CA feel it first befor you let your little one walk on it. it could burn there paws. also in the heat be sure they get plenty to drink. |
I have a breakaway cat collar for when Im at work |

This is a great thread! I would never have thought about some of these things. My baby comes home Friday and I want things to be as safe as possible for him. I am in the process of puppy proofing and this thread has helped a lot! Thanks everyone! |

Don't take your puppy ANYWHERE until they have COMPLETED their series of puppy shots which is usually at 4 months. Too many times I have seen people at pet stores and dog parks that have only had one shot or none at all. When you take your pup to the Vet do not put them on the floor.( Where do you go when your dog is sick?) You don't want to catch anything And overall puppy proof your house like you would baby proof it. (lock up chemicals, be careful with electrical cords, secure items that may fall on your pup, etc…) |
My yorkie got her jaw caught in her collar. It was very scary to see her mouth wide open and and her jaw stuck in the collar. Be very careful and do use collars. :) |

Good Dog Foods One of the most important things I've learned from this site has been how to identify "quality" dog foods. Don't assume it's a high quality dog food just because the packaging said so. Do your research at... www.dogfoodanalysis.com and of course www.yorkietalk.com:thumbup: |
