I personally think it is never a good idea to buy a puppy for a young child unless you are prepared to oversee the care at all times..and i think buying a Toy Breed for a small child is a definite no no.
This situation sounds similiar to my sister...she got a Cavalier King Charles spaniel pup for her 14 year old daughter, who really wanted a Chihuahua or a Yorkie but couldn't afford to buy one, anyway, they got this spaniel pup (for free) from an auntie that breeds them, (BYB) and the novelty started to wear off within the first week, she had the pup in her bedroom, she then started to complain about it keeping her awake at night then started leaving it in its crate standing in its own mess, letting it out of the crate first thing in the morning when it had woken her early and then getting back into bed and leaving the pup wandering around the house unsupervised!!! I warned my sister that this would happen but my words fell on deaf ears..my sister has now taken over the care of this pup which has become aggressive, especially towards the younger children who constantly antagonize it, my sister has even been bitten on the face when she tried to retrieve a chicken bone that the pup had got hold of, she also revealed to me that the pup has managed to escape twice and ended up in the road outside the house! everything i warned her about has happened..I feel so sorry for this pup and i am trying to give her as much advice as i possibly can..but i just wish she would find the pup a new home before it gets any older.

Ohmigosh, that's horrible! Good luck with trying to get the Yorkie! I really hope they give him up to you, because the poor bby needs a good&loving home. It makes me sick to see when people can't take care of their pets. I can't believe they would entrust an eleven year old to fully take care of a puppy, especially a toy breed!

Thats sickening that someone would buy an animal, then not take care of it. It's completely ignorant that they would get a pet for their child and think that they would not have to make sure it is taken care of. Hopefully they let you have the puppy, and soon!

I would definitely call the ASPCA the pup can not be in good shape if it is not eating properly. I will pray for his pup.

Love

Thank you all for your kind words and your support!

I will keep you updated on the status of the dog. She really needs the love she deserves. I am waiting to hear a response from my friend. I don't want to seem too pushy but I am very worried about the little furbaby. I will keep you guys updated and keep crossing your fingers and saying prayers for the little one.

Thank you once again!

One of my last post's here was something like this I still have the neighbor who bought (so she says from a friend) her daughter a yorkie because Me and my daughter have one. Im not sure if in that post I said how they stole a dog from the park its a (can't think of the breed) small dog very friendly well both these dogs are always in the back yard alone all the time I think they put them in the garage at night (maybe could stay out) they some times run out of food and feed them people food.
it's like the first week they had these dogs out in about with them and the next they forgot about them I never see them I only hear them.
what's wrong with people animals are not the next it bag they are like babies you have to have time for as well as patience.

I also have another neighbor who has a cat who keeps having babies and there babies have babies and so on right now I have 4 of the kittens I rescue I working on getting them use to people and I hope to find them homes.
The other cats bigger babies are so ferral it's to late for them.she also is not feeding them I put food and water out for them. one cat drowned in a bucket of water she had out side another one of the babies she found dead. it's getting out of hand and I have called people and I get the run around no one wants to help and I don't know how much more animals I can feed now that I have 4 kittens and my own animals.

Feels good to vent.

I hope you can rescue that poor Yorkie but I can understand of how about going at it because you know they are not caring for it but you know they won't just give the dog up because of what they paid or what they can sell it for GOODLUCK I hope we hear a Happy Ending.

First of all, a child cannot be held fully responsible for the care of a puppy. OK, so she isn't taking care of her puppy (for whatever reasons). She's a child!! How can she even feed her puppy if the ADULTS do not buy the food and bring it in the house? What, the adults want to teach this child a lesson or something?? This is totally wrong and I would stress this to your friend. If it is really true that the puppy hasn't been fed for days, I would threaten them with a call to animal control or ASPCA. Oh, these people make me so angry. I truely hope they rehome this puppy to you or someone who will love it.

You could say, "I see that the dog isn't really working out for you guys. I would be happy to take her off your hands for you." Perhaps you could say that your were thinking of getting a new dog as well and would make a good home for theirs if they were considering rehoming her.

Geeze, I'd say anything to help that poor puppy. If anything, you will get their attention and perhaps they will begin caring for the baby. Perhaps you could talk to the 11 year old. Tell her how much care a dog requires, etc... How to teach it tricks (for food perhaps?). How to feed a dog, etc...

If all that doesn't work, I'd take more drastic steps. I'd at least buy the people dog food and bring it to their house. Yikes
