So I was thinking after reading a post on here and I need to say this. Callie is by no means show quality she is 12 pounds and has floppy ears but to me that means nothing. I was looking for a companion that was not going to worsen my allergies and was small and I came across the yorkshire terrier and it wasnt because there ears stick up or there hair is soft and flowing or because you can get some that are so tiny. I am not rich I live with my grandparents because of health reasons and at this time am unable to have a real job but my family came together to buy me Callie and she has changed my life I am able to drive the 30 miles between my home and my moms and I am able to go through drive threws with Callie next to me I have had a reason to get up in the morning and to live. She is so spoiled and not needing of anything I do sell some stuff on ebay and make some money, she has a stroller, a carseat, lots of toys and clothes and more love then I ever thought I could give (and thats a lot because I love everyone and everything sooo much) being rich means nothing some of the poorest people love there pets more then anyone. There are so many people out there who are rich and buy small dogs as fashion accesorries and they are not they are living things. I'm just so sad by some people my gosh money means nothing compaired to what Callie has given me.

I agree being rich doesnt make you a good dog owner and being poor doesnt make you a bad one. Everyone has different means and do the best they can do

Too bad some of these "rich" people don't understand that these animals love them unconditionally

AWWWWWWW sweetie, don't let 'em get you down. I feel the same way...my Murfee isn't show quality and was bought at a flea market for $500. He is way loved and has more than any dog needs. He's not really a dog, he is my baby. In my opinion, there was only one "perfect" thing on this earth and that was Jesus. You can breed for perfection but will NEVER achieve it.

I feel the same way about my boys. They bring me endless amounts of joy!

I'm not rich, but they have everything they need and are well taken care of. Money doesn't make people love any more or any less.

I completely understand you, I been married for 5 years and no kids yet, Kuma was a gift from my husband but seem to be more a gift from above, he has lifted my spirit so much, there are no words that can explain how much my Kuma means to me and my Husband, Kuma is 9pounds and has a huge overbite but i LOVE IT, we just got a little girl about 2 weeks ago, and its amazing how much we love her in such little time.

Lacy and Rylie are clearly pet quality, from backyard breeders. I love them to death and wouldn't trade them for the world, and I think they are adorable. I'd be absolutely devestated if I lost Lacy. She's my world and the best dog. But I'm not blind...I know they have faults according to the standard and I know they aren't anywhere near show quality. It doesn't matter to me now because I have them and they are my babies. But I certainly won't be buying another pet quality dog from a backyard breeder again. I'm much more educated about the breed now, and I know what I'm looking for in my next yorkies...a good example of the breed is extremely important to me. It's so important to me to support reputable breeders that breed healty dogs that are good examples of the breed...it's important to me because dogs are suffering and dieing because of bad breeders, and it's important to me because I love the Yorkshire Terrier breed. And if I didn't really care what type or look of dog I wanted from now on, I'd rescue one that needed a good home...I wouldn't buy one from a backyard breeder. It's because I love my dogs and this breed so much that I won't support bad breeding anymore.

I am lucky enough to have the best of both worlds! My Tootie is a WONDERFUL bunch of 16 lbs... he has short cottony hair and the MOST BEAUTIFUL long floppy ears ever! I wouldnt trade this little boy for anything!
My Hopey, on the other hand, is a perfect little 5.5 lbs. of love! She is beautifully silver and has the perkiest little ears! This little girl is such a joy!
There is no such thing to me as imperfection in my babies. I LOVE them both, so very much!

Since most of us think of our yorkies as our babies and love them with all our hearts, just like our children...does that mean that people should "breed" for perfection. There is no such thing as perfection.

Personally i care more about them being Healthy then perfect. IMO

I usually figure if someone doesn't care about breeding to the breed standard, they probably don't care about their health too much either. The standard was created for a reason...it has the unique qualities that make a yorkie what it is. We wouldn't even have this breed if it weren't for a standard and those breeding with a goal in mind. When you start breeding dogs with faults, they get further and further away from the standard until they don't really even look like a yorkie anymore. And the standard isn't just about looks..it's about proper structure, movement, attitude, and health as well. When you compromise structure, you start getting problems like luxating patells and hip dysplasia. So the standard and health really go hand in hand.

And no, there is no perfect dog, but I admire the breeders that continue to breed the best they can.

It doesn't matter how much you paid for your yorkie, I only paid $375.00 for our little girl. And no she probably isn't show quality, but I didn't buy her for show. I bought her for me and my family to enjoy her.
