| Therapy Dog We're so excited. I'm taking Caesar and Lucy for their first therapy dog visit this evening. Caesar's certification came in February, but since Lucy broke her neck about that time, I hadn't had a chance to take him. Now Lucy passed the test, too. So they can both go! Yeah!!! |

| It went great last night. Lucy and Caesar were a hit with everybody. I wasn't sure I was going to get Lucy back from a couple people. She just cuddled right up on peoples laps and let them do whatever. Caesar was a more curious and it was harder to get him to sit still. I'm not allowed to take pictures at the nursing homes, but here's what Caesar and Lucy looked like for their visit. Remember Lucy doesn't have a beard, because her hair hasn't grown back yet since her surgery. Last edited by majic50; 05-06-2008 at 08:54 AM. |

| How wonderful! When I'm done with all my grieving, I want to volunteer with Hospice and have my babies also volunteer. I'm sure you were thanked many times for sharing your babies, but I'll thank you again. And thank you to your little furbutts for bringing a smile to the people at the nursing home. |

| How wonderful!! I would like to do this too. How did you get your 2 certified? Also, I've been wondering how Lucy is. She looks great in the picture! How is her gait and is she already healed?

Thank you! I had a very good trainer, but you could do the training yourself if you're more talented than I am. The certification is through TDI (Therapy Dogs International). Most of the requirements are from the AKC Canine Good Citizen test, but they add a couple of things. Like, they have to be tested around medical equipment, such as wheelchairs and walkers, and they have to learn "leave it" so that they don't pick up anything off the floor that they're not supposed to. The test is done by a certified TDI evaluator and if the evaluator is for the AKC to, they can also receive the AKC CGC at the same time. You can get the complete list of requirements from Therapy Dogs International, Inc. If they don't have a TDI evaluator in your area, I understand that there are other therapy dog organizations that also certify dogs. | |

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Congrats Magic50 and to Lucy and Caesar! Being a Therapy Dog is a very rewarding thing (my Izzy is also a Therapy Dog but through Delta Society). It takes a lot of training and patience to get your doggie certified and it makes you feel good that you are giving back to your community. Great job you guys!!!
