| Wheelchairs Does anyone who owns a yorkie that is or has someone around who is in a wheelchair? Have you ever had worries about running over the little one? I don't have my yorkie yet, but my boyfriend is in a wheelchair. So any advice would be great. Thanks in advance! |

| That's a great question! I don't have experience but one of my neighbors is in a wheelchair and they have a small dog who does great. I will move this to general discussion to see if you can get some more replies! Welcome to YT |

| Kalina spends a lot of time with a friend in Florida who has a wheelchair. At first she absolutely got in the way and barked and chased the wheelchair. However, once she got used to it she didn't pay it any more attention than anything else and sometimes she goes for a ride and she loves that!! PS. It only took her one day to get used to the wheelchair.

| I have a friend in a wheelchair and their Yorkie does great. They got him as a puppy and he grew up around the chair so it is completely normal. Just like walking though, you still have to watch out... Now one of my dogs on the other hand is completely freaked out by a chair with someone in it that moves. I guess it's all in the experiences they gain.

| I thiink a dog around a wheelchair would be fine. My pit girl, Laney, has been around wheelchairs and is surprisingly more calm and obedient around them than normal people. I've not exposed Slade to them yet, but I'm sure he would do fine too. At most I thnk the dog might run and bark when they saw a wheelchair til they got used to it, but i wouldn't worry about them getting run over!

I am sure your new one will learn fast.. do you have on already picked out yet.. if you haven't and you are wanting a bigger yorkie to jump up to you in a wheelchair... you can contact me.. I know of a breeder who has a couple of larger ones.. no one seems to want the larger ones.. and they need love too... she gives them a three year guarantee and has them neutered already... pm me for a price if your interested.....anne |
