| How young is too young to be fixed? I want my little boy to be fixed before he ever realizes he is a boy. I've heard of pups being fixed as young as 6 wks by the human society. My vet really wants me to wait til 5 or 6 mnths but she says it's because she wants him to develop boy behaviors like lifting his leg to pee. I on the other do not. She's worried he'd be embarrased about peeing like a girl, but he doesn't he stands up to pee and just thrusts his hips forward. I don't want him to mark our house (which his daddy did). I don't want him to ever start this behavior in the fear that even after he's fixed he still will. Size is not a problem he's already 5 lbs at 10 weeks.

| I just had Maximus done yesterday and he is close to being 6 months ( 2 more weeks)...my vet says between 4-6 months is optimal because their "balls" need to drop...it is a much easier surgery that way...both of Maximus had descended by like 4 months and it was just a matter of scheduling the procedure...I have heard that earlier is BETTER...and Maximus never picked up his leg but did start humping...I don't really think they have a concept of embarassment??? GOOD LUCK!!!

| Like you said, vets will fix dogs/cats as early as 6 weeks. If size isn't an issue, I'd get it done now. The earlier the better imo. |

| It may depend on what your vet will do. Mine won't spay/neuter before 6 month old.

| My vet seems adament on letting his balls drop before doing it. She wants him to be a man before she takes his manhood i guess.

| Testicles should be descended by 4 months (usually earlier) and neutering is a much simpler procedure than with undescended testicles which requires a more invasive surgery that has the possibility of being unsuccesful if the undescended can't be located. I never heard of a vet worried about a dog learning to lift a leg???What difference could that possibly make? Why would you want him to learn to mark? Optimal time for this surgery is around 6 months and facilitates the removal of retained baby teeth during the same procedure. Earlier and he may have to undergo a second anesthesia to have teeth done. |

| six months worked well for us.... We waited until 6 mths to neuter and Tucker never has lifted his leg to potty. He doesn't mark either. He still seemed like a baby to me at six months. Hope this helps |

| My vet is recommending we get Katia spayed anytime after next week. She will be 4 months next week. We are trying to wait until she loses some teeth on her own first.
