| I am so sorry for your friends loss I cannot imagine what she is going through. Please tell her she's in my prayers. I hope legal action is taken, and I'm pretty sure the lady walking the dog owns it. Who walks random dogs? Keep us updated as to what happens.

| I am so so sorry for your friend. I wouldn't know what to do either...hopefully the owner of the pitbull comes forward to claim their dog and then you can go from there once the owner is found.

| So very, very sorry Where is the dog locked up, the ASPCA or CACC? Keep calling them and stay on top of the case. Continue to ask for the status of the case!! This is a terrible, terrible tragedy. I feel that the lady is probally was the owner, and if the so call owner cannot be found she should be sued, speak to an attorney first, there are free online consultations sites, however I do not remember the web names anymore. A lady I know who owns a Yorkie was grabbed up in a Pit's mouth, [ the Yorkie I mean] It did not want to kill it just yet and she was able to beat the Pit over the head and it let go, she does not take her dog outside any more, this happened last summer. You or your friend call the local police pct. and get a copy of the police report, On Animal Planet 'Cops Precint' they have had situations like this, they work out of the ASPCA, carry guns and have full arrest status, the only way u can tell them from nypd is by thier insignia, most r retired cops. Tell your friend my prayers R with her and so R all of YT. -------and I mean that literally---dw-------------p.s.---if no police report was filed it is not to late. |

| This is such a terrible tragedy! I am so sorry!! I am sure the dog walker was the real owner, she most likely didn't want to have charges pressed against her & be held responsible for damages. Did the police get her name & information? I would keep calling the shelter & the police until I got answers and if need be get an attorney involved.

| I'm so sorry to hear about your friend's yorkie. The walker obviously didn't have control over the pit bull and shouldn't have been walking it in the first place.

| Follow up I sincerely thank everyone for their inputs and condolences, This is the information that Ive been through the last 3 days. I pray that no one has to ever go through what Ive went through. Ive called : New York City Health Department (311) or (212)-NEW-YORK Animal Bite (212)676-2483 There is also a law , which Im looking into , which is called New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets 17th pct - for a aided report ( It is not a police report ) - Ive tried to make a police report, since the pitbull did injure me ( Emergency room summary "DOG BITE"), but they said, all I can do was the Aided Report. Ive so far gotten 2 rabies shot,(6 hrs in the er) and yesterday they gave me an extra shot, that will work right away. You get a bit dizzy after the shot. The physical pain is nothing compared to loosing Dior. From what Ive heard from the place where it holds the pitbull, they would put the pitbull under observation for 10 days. Then they will see if it can be released. What we can do ? We can check and see what their appeals process(es) are. My Main Concerns at this point, since the pitbull killed Dior and attacked me , Is, I never want that animal to hurt anyone or any other dog ever again. What else can I do? This post is still written by her friend.I will tell her about this website tonight. Last edited by slk77; 04-30-2008 at 03:21 PM. Reason: addtion |

| This is unbelievable!!! There has to be rights for your friend!!! I am so heartbroken for her!!! I wonder if you can call a news station or something and tell them your story if you feel like you have tried everything and are not getting significant results. I live in NYC and cannot believe that no one is doing anything( i.e. police, etc.) You are in my prayers and I am so, so sorry for you and Dior and I know the rest of YT is as well. I am going to ask around and see if I can get any info for you on what else you could do. |

| Thank you so much for your support My Friend had forwarded me all these overwhelming kindness from people who understands that a dog is not just a dog. My dior meant more to me than life itself. He was like a child to me and always been there for me when I felt down and he was always so unconditionally there for me. My heart is broken and I don't know how I can proceed on my days. He was a family memeber who I had to watched this horrible murder in front of me. The owner came forth with no remorse at the police station, she basically told me, she can't control one animal attack another and offered me to replace me dog! As if she just damage a purse of something. Her attitude was basically, take it or leave it and she'll get her dog back..... As I was crying uncontrollably talking to her, I realized ... i could and never allow this vicious animal to have a second chance to attack any dogs or anyone. I called numerous time to the dept of health pleading how dangerous this dog is to society and the next victim may be a child near by. The dept of health did not say much besides, they would observe the dog for 10 days if the dog has no sign of danger to human, it will be release to the owner like nothing happened! I am outragous that I am a human being who was severely bitten/attach and I can't do nothing to stop this tragedy to continue to happen. WHY must we take a chance to release a dog out into a crowded NYC street ( 54 St between 1 and 2 ave) just to see if this will happen again? I am asking everyone for help to call the health dept to demand this dangerous pit bull to be put to sleep and not able to harm anyone or any dog. Will you help? |
