Default Pee pads and dirty floors

How many of you have yorkies who are JUST pee pad trained? Layla has only used pee pads her whole life. My yard isn't completely fenced so I need to put her harness and leash on everytime she goes outside, and I work on the other side of the city full time and I don't expect her to hold it all day! So the pee pad thing has worked for us. She has one pad upstairs in the corner of the living room, and another downstairs.
The problem we have with it is that her little paws get in the pee spots and then mark little pee pawprints all over the laminate floors. I don't know if there's any way to avoid this. I change her pad daily, but she seems to just walk right through it after she pees. I didn't have a huge problem with it because I was the floors every weekend, but last night my roommate seemed to get really angry about it and said it's so disgusting it makes her sick
So I'm not sure what to do. Does anyone else have this problem or can anyone think of a solution?

I tried the pee pads and Jake did OK with them. He eventually got to where he wouldn't use them and would hold it til I got home. Now I don't even use them. I take him out first thing in the morning, I try and get home around lunch time(only work 10 minutes from the apartment), take him out as soon as I get home and then take him out before we go to bed.

Sorry I can't be of any more help. Maybe find a new roommate? If you are cleaning up the mess when you get home then IMO your roommate needs to be quiet.

Wrigley uses pee pads that we keep inside of a litter box.
We don't have that problem, maybe your pads aren't absorbent enough? I'm not sure what else to suggest.

This is a tough one. I wish I could give you better advice, but both my boys go outside. The only thing that i can think of is to keep her in a smaller area like a bathroom, or maybe to put several pads down. Good luck.

I just did a search on google and found this Replace Your Dog Litter Box with an Indoor Dog Potty | UGO PetCare
I'm just not sure if the grate would be hard on her paws...

I have carpet so I don't see it as easily but I do need to clean more often. At night I put her in a warm water wash with baby shampoo to just wash her feet......they stink and it bothers her alot too. There are pee pads out there that are supposed to absorb more but they are very expensive.

I couldn't live without her being pee pad trained especially with our cold winter mornings. Now she doesn't use them much unless I am gone for awhile.

Are you using disposable pee pads or washable? I found when I switched to washable that they are MUCH more absorbent and kept their paws a lot cleaner. Maybe try that. I purchased mine from Little Bit on here and I love them! They've already been washed a million times and are still like new. Give it a shot!

I totally agree, the disposable ones are not as absorbent. I use washable pee pads.

I am using disposable. How often do you wash them? With two other roommates who work the same hours as me, it's tough to get in a load of laundry because each person takes about 2 nights a week from after work until bedtime

This is unusual as most yorkies will try to avoid there own pee when walking on the pad. You can change the pee pad more often, but I know it get expensive.

It is easy to trained the yorkshire to go out by putting a pee pad on the ground with a rock on it. Stick with the same spot, eventually you won't need the pee pad he will know this is his spot to go.

Or you can buy a cheap carpet( a WASHABLE one like for the bathroom) of 3X3 feet or even use 2 towels to put under the pee pad. That will help dry out his feet as he walk off the pee-pad.

Hope that will help you.

She does pee outside when we go for walks, and she's very smart so I'm sure it would be easy to train her, but sometimes I'm not home for 10 hours if traffic is really bad and I really don't think she'd be able to hold it that long.
I just looked up reviews for the UGODog potty thing and I couldn't find anything negative about it. I guess the cubes in the grate are very small to make it comfortable on the dog's feet. I think I might give it a try.

Mine only use the pee pads as well. I put one of those washable pee pads under the disposable ones so that they have some where to "wipe" there feet before they get to the floor. I'm a nut about washing my floors though.

I have the same problem with Leo. He steps in his pee every time. I would also suggest a same bath rug under the pad.

I put a flannel backed tablecloth under the pee pad but that doesn't help to wipe her feet alittle. I am going to put a throw rug under too. I can't use the washable since I share a washing machine and they would feel funny about it or even the smell when washing them so this works well for me and thanks for the advise about throw rug.

The washable pee pads will solve a lot of the problem. They are MUCH more absorbent than the paper ones. They really aren't that expensive in the long run. They end up saving you money.

If you can't wash them every day just get enough to last until however often you regularly wash. If you fold them in fourths with the dirty side in the smell is contained. I just stack mine that way next to the washer until I am ready to wash.
