| Hello, just looking for some advice/suggestions. My puppy is crated during the day and at night and never goes potty in his crate. When he's out of the crate he usually barks when he needs to pee so I take him out and he goes. My problems are that he usually never barks when he has to go number 2 so I just catch him going on the floor and he sometimes barks every five minutes to go pee. If I take him out every time he barks, he usually goes every time but it's just a little each time. When he goes outside I praise him and sometimes reward him with treats but he seems to be in a little bit of a standstill with getting better at the whole potty thing, especially the number 2. He's almost five months old now and we have been crating him for about 2 months. Any suggestions??? |

| How much water is he drinking? We had a similar problem with Daisy. We had her water down all the time. A trainer friend said sometimes puppies will take little sips of water ALL the time. We leave her water down when she is playing, before and after vigorous exercise and then the rest of the time we give her water and then immediately take her out, before long we were able to leave her water down longer and longer. Puppies are input output machines so if they are constantly inputting they are going to be constantly outputting. It worked for us. I know my other friend did the same thing with monitoring when water was given and it seemed to help her too.

| Also if you give him chewsticks that might amplify things, we noticed that with Daisy, so just watch how much and when he is eating/drinking.

| He usually will take a good drink and then not drink for a while which is why this is so weird. The thing that's really strange is that he'll go potty a little but in five minutes he'll have to go again but he won't have drank any water in between so I don't really understand how it didn't all come out the first time But maybe I'll try the food and water thing to try to get him on a more regular schedule. Right now we leave both down for him all of the time. Thanks! |

| No problem! We sometimes have to walk Daisy for about 5-10 mins or longer, b/c she will squat and pee a little, but then when we keep walking her she ends up going a few more times. Maybe your little buddy is the same way. He'll get it one of these days!
