Eating Twigs?!?

Hey just a thought if your dogs who chew sticks are puppies they might be teething. Get them some rawhide.

And as to keep-away games try running away and pretending to be really interested in something like a dog toy (lots of high pitched noises squeeking the toy) I'll bet you anything you like the dog will think he's missing out on something much better than a dumb old stick!

At least it works with Dougal! He likes chewing sticks at the park so I squeak his squeaky tennis ball and run away cackling that "it's mine, all mine!"

Carlos is the same way he loves eating twigs and mulch. I have to give him treats just to get him to drop it because he is so fast. The other day he came flying in the house with something and my hubby and I thought it was a stick. Hubby grabbed it out of his mouth quick and then started screaming. It was an old bird leg. Yuck Yuck Yuck!

I called the er vet and they said that small bites and bark will soften, but not digest so it should pass.

You will have to be on the super look out during walks. Little stinkers!

I have been so frustrated I thought of spraying him down with the hose! JK!! I think he tries to eat them because his big sister wants to take them away!

EWWW.. An old bird leg! The things our babies find!
We have a very bad stray problem here in the south and we had a mother cat and her kittens pooping in our backyard for a while when it was all dirt. We had some run down sessions with cat turds in the dogs mouth. It was great fun let me tell you!

Yep..Pixie is a Twig eater too..as soon as i let her in the garden she is chomping away on something! as soon as i take a step towards her she darts off chewing as fast as she can before i can get hold of her!

Yep! Elvis likes the little twigs too! He really loves it when the wind blows a dried leaf around and he chases after it...so cute to watch.

I actully know someone who is an herbologist that told me that the bark from the twigs is good and nutritional.

One method I use to stop my little one from picking up and eating things he is not supposed to touch is to say "leave it" and then when he does, reward with a piece of carrot or favorite treat. After awhile the term "leave it" does sink in and most of the time Remi listens! (At least when he wants to listen).

Our babies eat sticks, twigs and pieces of bark like they are starving to death. It scares me. I'm always afraid a piece of a stick might perforate something. They are relentless, I can't stop them. They smuggle bark chips in and hide them under the couch for snacking on later. They found a pencil a few days ago and took it under the couch and ate it! By the time I figured out what they were doing, all that was left was the eraser! I hope it doesn't harm them.

They may out grow this. Both my girls did. I think it's a puppy game and a teething thing. Just taking a guess.

Yes! All my 3 do it. We went to my brother's house the other day and we were out on the porch and there were leaves and twigs everywhere. The 3 midgets were eating as many as they could like it was candy to them It doesn't seem to do them any danger but when Teddy pooped i can see leaves sticking out in it lol and he also vomited today and it was a big ball of leaves so i guess he ate too many.

That is a really good idea! I usually take treats outside for when they potty. I'll have to bring extra for this!

I'm glad to know the bark is ok! I swear these two are going to make me go frey early!
