Itching Hi everyone, I have a 10 month old puppy and she itches so much around her nose that she lets out a cry when shes scratching, it just breaks my heart to see her hurting like that. I have switched her to lamb and rice food which seems to help. My question is, I have been putting Cortaid on the top of her mouth around her nose area twice a day and its almost stopped her itching completely. Does anyone know if this is going to hurt her in the long run? I don't want to put her on steroids that the doctor gave me because shes a toy and is not going to get any heavier than she currently is (3 lbs.) and he said it could really damage her little organs in the long term. I appreciate any help. Thank you! Orlynn

| This site was recommended to me when I first joined YT. Hopefully it will help you as I think Cortaid and hydrocortisone are related. http://www.walkervalleyvet.com/otc-meds.htm

Have you had a skin scraping done to check for mange. This often shows up around the nose first. Home remedies are ok but he should be checked out by a vet as it could be something other than allergies

Yes, shes been checked for mange 3 times, every time I take her to a different vet for her allergies they insist on scraping her and they can never get a good sample the first time, so she really ends up hurting when we go.

So you changed her food... What about the type of bowl she eats out of.....could she be allergic to that??? Also....does she sleep on a blanket that make have wool in it... just think of something that she sniffs.....like rugs.....or pillow, bed...etc....
