I hope you can find another alternative to this because Yorkies are not safe outside. It is very easy for a Yorkie to get overheated, even in the shad and it gets very warm in WV. Also, there are lots of predators due to the Yorkie's small size. Hawks are just one. Even a squirrel can do nasty damage. Also, Yorkies are dogs that are meant to be with people, not just left outside alone.

If you have no other option, please at least build some kind of area for him that would be completely fenced all around and on top so nothing can get to him, along with some kind of house so he can escape the elements and make sure he always has fresh food & water. We may be partial here, but Yorkies are not like other dogs and certainly not like big dogs!!

I just wanted to tell you that one of our member's just lost her dog to
a large dog who came onto her property and attacked her Yorkie
and she was there!
How can a little one defend it's self if left alone to preditors.
Even with an owner it's not safe!
Please re-think this through. If your husband and MIL say no , re-home
him and keep him safe. It's your duty as an owner.
Good luck.

I agree with everyone else. I think you should rehome him, dogs should not be left alone outside, too many things can happen!

I have a feeling with all the negative responses, she's left us.

And she hasn't posed since this thread started yesterday night.

I completely agree with you!! Thank God hubby wouldn't dare let Jasmine outside by herself!!! But if he tried to give me that choice...It would be sleeping outside while Jasmine and I cuddled on the memory foam bed!!

I just feel for the poor baby. I hope that .... if this is real....she finds another solution...that baby does NOT need to be left outside all the time!

I agree with everyone else PLEASE don't leave that poor baby outside. I normally would not say rehome him but in this case if it is outside or new home please consider a new home..

I shutter to think of all the things that could happen. Personally I don't think any dog is a full time outside dog. They need human interaction and that confortable feeling they get inside with people.

Wow, this thread turned sour really fast. I think we all should try to be a little more positive and helpful. If I were this woman, I definitely would not bother responding to this thread after some of the rude and hurtful posts.

Althought I agree with everyone that any tiny dog (Yorkie, Maltese, Chi, Pom, etc.) should NEVER EVER under any circumstances be left along outside and unsupervised, there's a nice way to get that message aross to the OP without being nasty.

To the OP -- if you're still reading this thread, please respond to us and let us know if you and your husband have made a decision. PLEASE reconsider leaving your little one outside all day. It really is NOT safe. Yorkies are very popular right now and there have been so many cases of them being stolen with their owners in plain view ... so imagine what could happen to one that is left outside all alone. In addition to theft, some kids/teens are just plain mean and might try to hurt your dog. Believe me, I've heard of people hurting cats and dogs before "just for fun" and I hear it on the news all the time.

In addition to people, there are animals that can injure our babies. Hawks and other types of large birds, squirrels, raccoons, big dogs and even cats can and do pose a serious threat and will do real damage, probably even kill your dog, if given the opportunity.

There's also the weather to consider. Rain, snow, lots of wind, extreme heat, etc. Yorkies are prone to getting overheated very quickly EVEN IN THE SHADE. All dogs require access to fresh, clean water all day long. Being outside, your dog's water bowl could easily gets bugs and/or debris in it and it would then be unsanitary to drink. I also read once that certain types of grass and plants/flowers can make these little guys extremely sick!!

So please, from one Yorkie lover to another, reconsider leaving your precious little one outside. It's so unsafe. There are many solutions to this and if you're willing to listen, I can gladly post some here (I'm sure many others would love to as well) or I can PM you. I wish you and your little boy all the best of luck.

You could put him in a crate while no one is home, The smaller the area for the dog, the less chance it will go potty till he is let out. But not too small that he/she isn't comfortable.

I have had my boys in a crate since puppies, and they don't go in the crate, they can hold it till I get home.
