 Well said. |
Yeay!!! :happyboun :happyboun :happyboun :happyboun I've reached my 100 posts!!! :yelrotflm :yelrotflm |
Melanie. I am educating. If you went down further and read what I posted regarding the original poster you would have seen that, I said "As far as the OP not coming back. I think that's a shame because it's one less person we can educate about Puppymills and Pet Stores. Ten years ago before I was educated I bought my first Yorkie from a BYB. I know better now. First reaction for some is to jump and scold best reaction is to educate for that will hopefully prevent." As far as what you quoted me on that was directed to linsvs. She is quoted as saying tha she has TWO pups that she bought at petstores and that she can't honestly say she wouldn't buy from a pet store again and she further went on to state whose to say who is right and who is wrong. That to me seems like someone that does not care to be educated / someone that does not care about puppymills. I am a firm believer on educating and not judging but when someone buys not one but two dogs knowing where these dogs come from then comes on here and says she can't say she wouldn't do it again and defends this by saying whose to say whose right and whose wronge. That tells me this person is in capable of being educated. Elaine |

There has been some seriously bitter people posting here over the last couple days.. WOW I'm glad some of us aren't that jaded!!! |
Wow !!!! I haven't read all the posts after I posted until now.. It seems someone feels I Dont care , so let me clarify what I do CARE about. I did say that both my babies came from pet stores and I think I also said both were rescues for me. My first baby came with papers which I started checking to see where she came from. It seems she was born in a place that had lots of bad reviews as being a puppy mill. I was terrified to think she could have health issues because of this. I do not support puppy mills at all, but I do think they are hard to close down and leaving babies stuck behind glass is not going to do much.. And My coment about not knowing whos right or wrong is that , just because one of our babies comes from a pet store, I am not going to TELL anyone how wrong it is, because if I went to a pet store and fell in love with a new baby I would be more interesting in giving it a good forever home then I would want to leave it because of where it comes from.many of us ARE educated but that doesn't mean we have to all feel EXACTLY the same way about it.I hope nobody reads meaness into this message theres allready enough of that on here. |

I agree... Who is to say how any one HAS to feel about puppy mills or any thing else? Puppy Mills are horrible. Every one that finds out about them hates them... but to make those poor puppies suffer more for it is heartless... It's not ok to bash people for how they feel about this. Some people will not be able to walk away from a puppy in a pet store. They want to save them, love them, and they will do what ever their heart tells them. And as far as I am concerned, to each his own... live and let live and stop trying to bully people into thinking like you do! |
Thinking back, we have actually purchased three dogs from pet shops. We didn't know what a puppy mill was back then. But I think we were meant to have those dogs. The first a schnauzer. He was in a wire cage high up above the other dogs. He was so grateful to get down and interact with us how could we possibly leave him. He was beautiful and the most fun dog I've ever had. The second was a Yorkie, and she lived to 15 years, a sweet sweet little girl. The third was a little poodle that we gave to my father when his poodle died after 18 years. We put the puppy in a box and handed it to him at Christmas. When he opened the box, the puppy jumped up into his arms and they were pals for the next 12 years. So in some ways taking a puppy home from the pet store is like rescuing them from the pound. Its a bad situation, but they are already here, why condemn them to live unhappy lives. I'm on the bandwagon for that! |

For those that think that buying a puppy from a pet store is saving them and not keeping puppymills in business then I think you should watch Oprah tomorrow. Buying that pup you feel sorry for because he needs a home is only creating a vicious cycle. You've now shown the pet store they can make money and they in turn continue to buy from the millers who in turn now realize they can make money and so it goes. Let me ask you guys who think that's doing a good thing - what happens when you buy all these dogs that need saving. Do you not think they will be replaced with more dogs that need saving. If the pet stores realize that people don't want to support mills by buying and they stop buying it will put some of these places out of business. To continue to buy will only tell them they are making money and in turn they stay open and continue to sell to people who think the way you do and they will continue to buy to replenish they stock they sell. Yes, puppies to them are stock. And if you think I'm too harsh then maybe you should visit one of these places and see for yourself what these dogs endure day after day. And, Melanie you made comments about "Seeing my posts" as if you didn't like what I had to say. I find it interesting that you've only been a member for what a month and yet you seem know my posts. Wow is all I can say. A whole month and you know a lot. Wow. As far as the original poster - she bought a pup from a pet store. Did she know better or was she just misinformed? I guess we really won't know because she was jumped on rather then educated and that's a shame because educating is the only way to fight places the mills. Elaine (mom to four rescues - one of which was beaten by a miller and 4 yrs. later still suffers the effects) |
This is such a sad thing. Please let me say that the pictures that a few of you posted of your yorkies that you got in petstores are absolutely beautiful doggies! I know you love them with all your heart and feel protective of them. The problem for me is just thinking about the babies' mothers left behind. It is just so sad and horrible how these dogs are being kept. Imagine your yorkie all matted in a dirty wire crate, getting crap food and no love ever? Fleas and sores and scabs and worms... it is so inhumane, I can't understand how people can treat any living thing this way, no less a dog! Well, that's why I am against pet stores, it is definately not the puppies, they are the lucky ones. So understand who I am sad for. It is for their mothers. It just makes me so terribly sad  P.S. I've bought dogs in petstores myself and thinking of their mothers being kept this way is haunting. The puppies can be hard to resist but we are keeping these dirty bas*ards in business when we buy their puppies. So that's why people get so angry but really, they should not get angry at you... You're not the one mistreating anybody and you never would but hopefully you'll be able to resist in the future just because it really is the right thing to do for the dogs back at the mill. Belive me, on this subject I don't mean to preach, it's just that I feel very sad for these poor poor dogs and I hope that you can think of them too and keep them in your thoughts and do everything you can to ease their suffering. I am looking forward to Oprah tomorrow, although I know it is going to be painful. |

But the puppys are still here and born and they dont just go away because no one will by them! |

As far as educating, remember that everyone's "education" sinks in at a different rate of speed. Just because we say something that we think is profoundly wise and unavoidably persuasive, ;) it may sink into the reader's mind days, weeks, months from now - something else might jog the memory of your eloquent post right into an "aha" moment. :) |

Any one can look up all your posts and see what you have to say. No rocket science there.... As far as pet shops go, I understand what you are saying. And for the most part I agree with you. I went to a breeder the second time around because I didn't want to go back to the pet store and give them my money or chance a pup that could wind up sick. I learned from YT about pet stores. How ever... Every one has the RIGHT to decide for them selves weather they are saving a pup or adding to the problem. IMO the answer is both at the same time. No one deserves to get jumped because of how they feel. Yell, scream, and kick your feet, you can not change how people feel nor should you try. You seem very angry and have a huge chip on your shoulder... it is not your place to tell people how to FEEL or THINK. Educate them and then leave them to their own choices. I'm not trying to be mean here, but when you get upset with people you will NEVER reach them, just drive them away... Like the OP. |
It looks like many of have the same thoughts. There are some good posts here. I do wish there was a way to close down puppy mills and there should be. Then those of us that feel for the poor babies in cages would not have to feel bad for them or be made to feel guilty for loving them... :( |
He's gorgeous! |

To say it is your right to buy a mill puppy and you will do it again with full knowledge really is taking part in the misery of dogs. If that's ok with you, then I would say you are not an animal lover, but yes, it is certainly your right to be anything you want to be. So watch Oprah today and imagine that one of those dog's is your doggie's mom. I can't see how you can love your dog and not feel something for its momma. |
gee We are all animal lovers GEE !!!I really hate to be told by someone else how I feel and what I am or am not. |
