| Is Shyness A Bad Thing Hi everyone, I picked a female puppy from a litter of 5 when she was around 6 weeks old. The breeder is holding her until she's older. We visit often I've noticed that she is quite shy with her litter mates (91/2 weeks now) and the breeder says that although she is eating solid food now she still whines for mommy a lot. Do you think this will cause a problem when we bring her home. We already love her to pieces and are looking forward to spoiling her rotten. Just wondering what we might be in for. |

| I'm not sure how to answer your question but I'm sure somebody will come along soon! Congratulations on your puppy, and good for you to wait for the puppy to get older! Welcome to YT!

| She is a little smaller. She does have 3 brothers that are all over the place and maybe a litte to rough for her. She is wonderful with my daughter and me. She snuggles right into our arms each time we visit. It's as if she remembers us each time. |

| I would bet the boys are ganging up on her. Maybe the breeder could separate her so she has some one on one time with her mother and maybe just one brother. I wish you be best with your new little girl and we will be looking forward to seeing pictures. |

| Lucy was a bit shyer when we visited her (she was the only girl in the litter) but as soon as we got her away from her mates after a few minutes she perked up and became very playful and affectionate. Welcome to YT

| Ranger was the shy-guy in his litter, but loved to be cuddled. I was a little concerned about it because I know that the timid pups can sometimes be anti-social if not handled correctly. I got him at 12 weeks exactly and I took him EVERYWHERE (I mean everywhere- malls, stores, camping, work, etc.) and handed him off to everyone that I trusted. As soon as he had all his shots I took him to all the pet stores and introduced him to all of my friend's dogs. While he had some anxiety at first when I handed him off to others, he now LOVES everyone and all dogs! My dog trainer was so happy because he is so social, a trait yorkies don't always have (mostly because of bad parenting). If she is still shy when you bring her home, don't nurture the timidness, but praise her when she's accepting new situations. I guess that's the Ceasar Millan way and it sure worked for us! I bet you can't wait for your new puppy!! Congratulations!

When was weening introduced? She might just be getting used to not having mom alway's their with her. I am sure that by the time she is ready for you to bring her home, she will not be like this at all. I gave my breeder Jeter's kennel and 2 blankets a few weeks before he came home to us and Jeter did fine his first nights home with us. No whining at all!I belive that it was because he was used to the smells of his kennel and blanket and he felt safe. Maybe you could see if you could bring a blanket so it get's mom's sent on it for when she comes home? Their is a book out that is called Help For Your Shy Dog by Deborah Wood. It I got it because Jeter is so scared of taking a bath and shakes something horrible when I give him one he also does this breathing coughing thing just walking him to the area to bath.I was hoping this would have information on overcoming a bath fear, unfortunately it did not but She has some usefull information in it that might be helpful to your dogs shyness.

| Sadie was shy for about 2 days... than she started running around barking like she owned the place! She is shy when we are out or with new situations but she warms up pretty fast these days. I am trying to get her out and socialize her as much as I can.

| Thanks, You all are sooo great. It is a little hard waiting for her to come home to us, but we understand the importance of leaving her with her mom a little longer. I think that the breeder is just starting to wean Star and maybe that's why she cries for her mommy. Thanks for the blanket idea I'm definitely going to try this. |
