| Decreased jumping ability after spay??? Summerlin was spayed a month ago, and ever since then, she seems to have trouble jumping up onto the bed and the back of the couch. Is there something in particular I should have the vet check for, or will she eventually regain her ability to jump the way she used to? My hubby says she will get over it, but I just want another opinion

| Ellie is still very springy after her spay. Are you sure it is spay related...have you checked for luxating patella?

| I'm not sure that it is related to the spay. That's just when she started having problems. Rather than being able to jump up onto the bed or the back the couch, someone has to pick her up and put her there when she wants to get up on either of them. I don't know what to check for when dealing with luxating patella. I don't really even know what it is? Can you give me some clues? Thanks!

| Is it possible she could have adhesions from the surgery? Or has she gained weight since then? One of my girls gained weight and has a much harder time jumping since she got heavier.

Could you have your VET check for luxating patella? It makes it hard (painful) to jump because the kneecap slides out of place. It is very common in Yorkies and that is probably not the problem here but any jumping problems and that is my first thought... Maybe her stomach still feels funny to her when she stretches to jump?

She just had a physical - should they have checked for luxating patella then? She hasn't gained any weight that I can tell. She always weighs around ten pounds - a little over or under. I just don't know. She loves to be able to jump and you can tell it bothers her that she can't

Some vets will check and some won't. It isn't something I'd go rushing in for but have them check next time she needs something else. Ellie jumped just fine too soon after her spay but if you touched her belly wrong for a couple of months after, she yelped. The vet thinks the internal sutures were bothering her and they didn't dissolve as fast as they should have. I would be concerned though that it has been awhile and she could jump before and not so much now... Never heard of that after a spay.
