| ![]() Hi and welcome!!! (thats feels weird considering I just joined Sunday!) I was a little like "come on, a yorkie chat site" when I first saw it, but my lil' Roxi had a surgery and was acting weird and I was really scared and desperate for info so I joined.. She is my 1st yorkie and I have wanted one for literally years! Let me tell you what a blessing this was! OMG, the wonderful people here walked me thru it, gave me advice EVERY step of the way! And kept checking up on her all the time!! I'm still in shock...I have never come across such caring and thoughtful people online... other than my own fam, they understand how much we love our Yorkies.. Good luck on your search, and stay involved here, I promise you will be glad you did... XX

Yorkies are great companions!! Of course there are many things to know about Yorkies. There are certain health issues that are common (there are some bad breeders out there resulting in certain health issues that can be avoided) and you will want to make sure that you do your homework. (Liver shunt, hypoglycemic issues, luxating patellas, collapsing tracheas) There are some great Yorkshire terrier books that will give you good info, and also some threads here will help, too!! "Teacups" don't exist. There is a standard and some are small on the scale. Many times the tinies can have more health issues. ( I personally think a good size is 5-7 lbs... but this is a PERSONAL preference). Most reputable breeders keep their pups until they are 12 weeks old. An "approx" judgement to how big a puppy will get.... double their weight at 12 weeks.... and I add a pound to that) I know that there are some breeders here on YT that would probably be happy to give you more info... ( I think that Sugar's Mom is hours away and she is a breeder here) Good Luck to You!! Hope that you find the perfect Yorkie! (if that is what you choose) and.... Welcome to YT!!!!!! ![]()

| ![]() Hi Congratulations, I just got my first yorkie (well my family has always had yorkies) but I bought my first yorkie last June after graduating from college. I also live in the Cincinnati area. Although I'm still living at home with my mom, saving up to buy a condo. Anyway, I'm not sure of any yorkie breeders in the area. I know there are classified ads in some of the local papers like the Pulse Journal and the Fairfield Echo. But, I do know that if you are looking for good dog food Complete Pet Mart sells a lot of good brands such as Wellness, Canidae etc. It's a small pet supply store but they have mulitiple locations throughout the area. Also, once you have your puppy feel free to pm me and I can give you the name of a groomer and a great veternarian. Where are you attending graduate school at? Quote:

| ![]() I go to grad school at Miami. I'm going to be moving into a two bedroom apt and am really hoping that will be enough space for myself and a yorkie! where did you get your yorkie? and how did the training process go? i think i'm leaning towards the crate training idea....thanks so much for the ideas! |

| ![]() Unfortunately I bought my Yorkie from Petland. I didn't know at the time about puppy mills and how horribel Petland is. Luckily, my Lucy is healthy and the best dog. I crate trained her, in fact she still sleeps in her crate at night and is in there during the day while i'm gone. I live with my mom who has 2 yorkies that are mostly pad trained and Lucy also will use the pads. I also took her to a puppy training class at Training Tracks, I took the class in West Chester, but I believe they have another location in Oxford so you might want to think about enrolling in one of their classes. They were wonderful I think it was 8-10 weeks long on Wednesday nights, the class had about 6-8 other dogs of all different sizes. But they teach you clicker training and handling skills, etc. It's also a great way to socialize your dog. Especially if he/she won't be any other animals.

| ![]() I have found the YTCA.org website to be very helpful. It offers a list of breeders by state who are supposed to adhere to the ethics of YTCA. Good luck in your search. ![]() Quote:

It might be best to wait to get the carrier, until you know the size of your dog. ![]() ![]()
