YT Addict | My Gizmo, acts afraid of other dogs Hey everyone, I got a quick question. My little Gizmo is a very friendly, happy little 16 month old. He loves people and is very friendly with strangers. I call him a 'HAM' most times when we are out. You should just see how he lays on the 'aren't I just the cutest little thing' bit. It's so funny to watch. Anyway when he is taken around other little dogs he just cowers. It's like he's afraid of other dogs. Does anyone else have this issue? I have 2 other dogs, the shepard is on a dog run outside and so there really is no interaction there. But I also have a black chow who runs free outside. Now the 2 of them get along just fine. We 3 take a walk together, me Gizmo and Pepper the chow. They walk together fine and play a little. Sometimes Gizmo will shrink away if pepper comes to close to fast, but for the most part they get along fine. I have a friend that has a chiowawa (I know I did not spell that right) lol Any who, I love some feed back here. Thanks Gizmo's Mom

| Hi Cynthia. I don't have that problem with Murfee, at least when he is on the leash. He thinks he is a pit bull but when he is off the leash is acts like he is afraid of other dogs. He doesn't interact or play at all. Good luck

| Hi Cynthia, we can kind of relate to your problem your having with Gizmo. When we brought Kiki home last year she was very timid and feared most dogs that came her way. She would backup the minute she would see one and kind of flatten out on the ground (I think she thought she was hiding) but over time and continuing to bring her for walks and meeting other dogs, she is not as fearful now and most of the time will sniff other dogs and try to join in to play with them. When she sees a dog and sniffs and plays I immediately say to her "good Kiki" and then she looks at me waiting for her treat. She understands now when she is good with dogs, she gets a treat. She does know which dogs are nice and which are a little too rough with her though. It is so funny, when she sees one of the larger, rough dogs, she rolls over on her back and just lies there on the street. It is really cute. But she knows what she can handle I guess. I am sure in time, Gizmo won't be as fearful. Anna www.dogster.com/dogs/511397 |

| Franklin was exactly the same way. We've just been taking him out and around other dogs as much as possible and encouraging him. He is starting to do much, much better! He used to just sit by my legs and back up when ANY dogs came near him. Now he usually will sniff them and walk around with them. He was wonderful at our Yorkie meetup! Just be patient, it'll get better. It just takes time for them to open up.
