| cage/crate question Sorry if i post a lot and ask a lot of questions i'm just sooooo excited to finaly have a place to ask the questions. Callie is almost 10 months old and completly potty trained so I cleaned my room and made sure it was deffenitly puppy proof and tried to leave her cage/crate open but she barked and cried at me to close it so i did and reopened it when she was calm and almost asleep and she noticed I did it because she lifted her head to look and then in the morning when she needed to go potty she came and jumped on the bed and woke me to let me know and we did this same thing for 2 or 3 nights but on the 4th night I forgot to open it and just figured maybe shes not ready for it to be open? I hope to one day get her used to it being open so at some point I can put the cage/crate away and just have her bed in there. Any ideas or suggestions?

| There have been posts about furbabies loving their crates because they feel safe in it. Like a den/cave for their ancient ancestors. IMO, I would think that in a new environment she would especially want to be in her "den." Guess time will tell whether she will want to sleep with you when she is more secure. I do understand your desire for her to sleep with you. It is wonderful to feel those little Yorkie bodies up against you at night.

| don't worry about asking lots of questions - we all do & that's a big part of why YT is here & what makes it so great. I think if she feels safer, more at ease with the door shut, that's what I would do. They like to have their space and this can be her way of letting you know it. See this is is a good example of crate training - when others think it's mean.

Luvs Lulu Donating Member | I always use the crate. Don't get me wrong we have beds littered in every room of the house on all three floors. Zoey and Lulu enjoyed the other beds during the day but I would also find them in their crates. I leave the crate open during the day and only close it at night to be sure they don't go wandering and get into trouble. They have never cried. I do believe that the crate can be used positively. The only time they are locked in is when it's night time especially being as Zoey is still being housebroken. As I type she is back in her little hacienda napping...I would nap in there too since there is a down throw in it...very warm and snuggly. Sometimes I see her semi closing the door with her body and then squeezing into the crack she left open to go lay down.

| I have the canine camper for pepper, she loves it. its nice and dark in there. the door zips shut, so what i do is leave it open just a little so she can get in and out but the big brothers can't get in and get her toys. I think they perfer her little ones to theirs.
