| minor injury..help! Hi. I was wondering if I could get some first aid advice. Suki is 9 mos and today unfortunately marks her first injury. My kitchen chair fell down and I think the leg of the chair swiped her paw. She let out a tiny startled yelp but I thought she was just frightened. Anyway after 20 mins later I saw her paw wet with saliva and small blood stain around one nail bed. I washed up her paw and it doesn't appear to be that serious, although she has a slight limp. I think the nail is just slightly lifted up. I put her collar on so she could stop licking it and it seems to be working so far. Can I put Neosporin on the affected area and wrap with gauze until she heals? I know I'll get the typical response about taking her to the vet..but I'm snowed in today. Any other advice will be greatly appreciated.

| You could put a little salt in a cup of warm water & put her foot n it to soak for five minutes. It will clean out any dirt that may be in there & is mildly disinfectant to stop any infection from setting in. If you do this twice a day it should help. Salt & water is good to use on any wound or healing stitches. |

| I accidently stepped on my Cooper's paw a few weeks back and his nail completely came out. I was able to take him to the vet and all they did was clean up the blood (there was quite a bit) and gave me some antibiotics. Since you can't get to the vet today, I would keep the paw clean and keep an eye on her. I'm sure she will be fine!
