| ![]() I am considering microchipping also for Indy. He is to be neutered Aug 1 and I want to get him PA lifetime dog license. I have the choice of microchipping or tattooing. I talked to my vet about it and she gave me a couple things to think about. She said that it is possible for the chips to migrate from the injection site, plus, like someone else said, they could be removed by someone who would find your dog. A tattoo is more permanent, couldn't be removed as easily. I already have 2 of my dogs tattooed and never had a problem with them. Still trying to decide..... |

| ![]() I am upset with myself because I forgot to get Maddie microchipped when she was spayed. I've heard it can be painful if they aren't under at the time. I would really like to do it for peace of mind and hopefully, sometime when I have her at the vet, I will remember to ask. Tartisst...I'm so sorry to hear about your missing yorkie. Don't give up hope...some pets are reunited with their owners after months...or even years. My heart goes out to you...missing your little one and worrying and wondering. I hope Coty finds his way home to you! |

| ![]() Okay...I have a ridiculous question so forgive me..... Do the vets tatoo in a "visible" area, say tummy or inside the leg, or is it hidden in an area that will ultimately be covered with hair?

| ![]() Sunshine came to me already microchipped. They insert it between the shoulders. When I took her to my vet, he copied the number onto her records. My vet told me that there are different types of chips and they aren't all compatible. That is my chip might not read at another vets office if he is set up for a different kind of chip. I guess it's similar to MP3's and WMA's, both digital audio but different.

| ![]() My vet did it for $30. You can take it to ASPCA and they will do it less than $100. I think it is worth it.

| ![]() I had both my boys chipped when they were neutered. It cost $10 per dog (also had my cat done) and then it is $40 for lifetime registration for up to 8 animals. I definitely think that it is worth it. I know if someone finds them there is no guarantee, but it gives me peace of mind to some extent. Had them done at the SPCA as well as their surgery. Great vets, latest anesthia and inexpensive. |

| ![]() I just came across this info about Microchips....VERY IMPORTANT!!! MICROCHIP ALERT!!! PetsMart/Banfield Animal Hospitals across the country are injecting dogs with a new microchip that cannot be read by the standard microchip scanner used for HomeAgain and Avid microchips. Thus, if a dog is lost and found by a shelter or Animal Control Officer, and they scan with the normal microchip readers, the chip will not be read by the scanner. This can be a disaster if a shelter recieves a dog and they are not able to detect the implanted microchip. Very few shelters have the scanner that is needed to scan PetsSmarts microchips. Multiple lawsuits have been filed sueing Banfield Animal Hospitals for deceptive business practices, false advertising, and misleading customers. All pet owners should check to see if their local shelters have scanners to read the PetSmart/Banfield microchips if they had one implanted.
