| Hello, I am a new yorkie owner *Jackson*, and I have a few questions. I am worried that my puppy is bored at home. I live in an apartment, and work all day, and some nights. I go home at lunch and take him for a walk, and I walk him and play with him at night when i get home. On the weekends, I take him to play with my friends' dogs. Is he getting enough time spent with him? He is like my child as i am sure you all understand, and I want to give him all I can. Thanks, Jackson's Mommy (Jen) |

| Yeah, I usually feel guilty when I leave Maxi home alone all day long. I guess when they are puppies, they need that extra attention. I work at an office where I can brink her along sometimes, but I can't bring her EVERY day. Maybe you can talk to people in your neighborhood (or find pet owners/lovers on Craigslist) and see if there are other little dogs looking for playmates during the day. Daycare can get VERY expensive around where I live, but almost EVERYONE has a dog in my apt. They all hire dogwalkers to come during the day to walk the dogs.

| My personal opinion..... One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone says "It's JUST a dog!" because I love my baby Tatum just like one of my daughters and the same with the toy poodle I had for 15 years before her BUT when it comes down to it, a dog needs less than a human child. I think the saying "It's the quality of time, not the quantity" is a good way to look at it with your furbabies. A dog's (or any pet's) needs are fairly simple.... you feed them, provide shelter and give lots of love. We often make the mistake of buying our children so much crap to play with (excuse the language but looking back on what my kids have been given in the past, that's what most of it was) that we think the dogs need this too. Don't get me wrong - Tatum has a rather large basket of toys but she also is such a laid back dog that all she really wants it to sit on or near someone and just BE with them. I think it sounds like Jackson is very much loved. Too much over-stimulation is sometimes a bad thing too so just being with him and doing what you're doing is great. Welcome to the Yorkie World!

| I am lucky that I just work right around the corner, so I am able to go home at lunch time and see him.. although I feel horrible when I just have to say "ok jackson mommy will be home later" twice in one day. I was keeping him in the bathroom which is really big, but now, he is potty trained so he has the whole apt to himself. |

My answer to that is I bet he is. Yorkies require less exercise compared to say, a Labrador, of course and if he is still real young, the play/exercise time doesn't last very long. We can play real hard with Tatum (inside or outside) for 20 minutes or so and then she's ready to relax. Like I said though, Tatum is a very laid back pooch. Now that she has an Australian Shepherd sister around, she does get a lot more exercise playing with her. It sounds like you're giving him plenty of exercise opportunities and are an excellent, caring Mommy!
