| To cut or not to cut?? Hi guys.. I have an appointment for Ranger for his monthly grooming trip on Wed. and have recently been thinking of <gulp> cutting his hair!! I have been growing it out since I got him, and always thought I wanted a full coat, but am now not sure.... He's seven months, I would say his hair is a good 3-4 inches long. He's such an active guy, always rolling around on the floor and in the snow, and he always looks like such a mess about 5 seconds after I groom him. I would definately keep the hair on his face, GOTTA have a topknot, but am thinking of getting two inches cut off. What does everyone think? I would especially love to hear from people who have had both full coats and puppy-type cuts to hear the pros and cons. Does the coat stay nicer looking between baths? I am sure it is easier to care for, right? And it always grows back. I am torn!!! Here's pics of Ranger now... (please excuse the shaved widdle wegs... they were shaved b/c of the cathertors from his recent illness, and excuse the white fluff all over the floor, this is what my babies do for fun- TEAR UP TOYS!!)

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Hello Amanda, It is a hard decision. Nolee's hair stays about the length of Rangers, (I get the groomer to keep it that lenght) but I keep it in a puppy cut around the face and keep the top knot. I have let it grow longer, but prefer it short on him. I feel it keeps him looking as my little puppy I first brought home! PS: I will grow if you don't like it! As you can see in my avatar it is longer and my siggy is puppy cut!

| He is really cute. And I know, it will always grow out... Maybe I should just cut mine instead.

| Why not just cut it a little and if you are okay w/that, then maybe next time you can go shorter. But if you decide that you don't like it, you wont have to wait as long for it to grow out as you would if you cut it really short!

| That's a good idea. I am just scared to let go of the puppy hair!!! I think he'll be a lot lighter with that inch of black pupper hair chopped off! I can't even imagine how moms with babies (skin babies) feel about cutting their hair!!!!

| I love his long hair, but sometimes you have to look at it practically. What will be the best for him? I know it is a hard decision to make. |

| I think he's such a cutie they way he is but you have to go with what works best for the both of you. Go with cutting a little at a time until you decide. He's such a handsome guy I bet he'll look cute any way

| Hi, I have had Zander in long hair. I recently cut it short and I find myself missing the longer hair. He grows it fast soooo, pheww. I think your pups hair length is perfect, but like someone else said if you just want to cut it, go with a little off the length at a time. Good luck deciding . He sure is a cutie!

| I think it is nice the length it is. I kept Lucy in a puppy cut last summer and let it grown out the past six months and I like her coat looking fuller

| we keep jasmine cut really short because we live in Fla and its rarely cold here but she's so much cleaner with short hair because she likes to play and within 5 minutes of it being long there's knots and everything else, to me it's much easier on both of us and I think she is much more comfortable. We just had 3 inches cut off of her I was going to let it grow but we gave her a bath every week and within a couple of days she smelt bad!!! lol but this is what we prefer and then she always looks like a puppYY

| I can totally relate. Bear's was getting long and messy looking and he didn't like the topknot at all so I decided to cut it short around the face. He looks absolutely adorable, so much so that I ended up cutting Mindy's short around the face too. Now they look like twins and I can't tell them apart but I'm happy I did it. It's much more manageable and I can see their eyes so much better. They look so adorable together with their cuts. My daughter says, it's sooo much fun. She's 10 and thinks it's neat trying to figure out which one is which. The way I looked at it is I can always grow it back. I left the body long for the colder weather but will probably go shorter in the summer. So much easier and won't mat as much putting clothes on them. Good luck, post pictures if you decide to go short. And yes their face is lighter. Love it!!!! I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

| WE are facing the same thing! Bella is too long and it is driving me crazy. it is so hard to keep her clean. She adores the outdoors and it is warm here most of the time. So she is Smella Bella. The good thing about it is it grows back if you change your mind!! |

| Thanks guys!!! And I have to say, how cute are all of your yorkies!!! Oh my gosh, they just make my heart melt!! Well, I appreciate all of the advice, I think I am going to go ahead and cut some off. I think I will just have her take off an inch or two and see what we think. I just know he used to go longer between baths before looking like a deranged, umkempt mongrel!!!! I think that extra inch will keep it a little nicer for longer. If he wasn't such an active, rollin' pill it wouldn't be so bad. Maybe when he's older I can grow a full coat! I will post pics on Wednesday!!
