| I know some vet's carry Lite snacks for over weight dogs. I buy them for my grandpup Harley, he's a pug. Perhaps giving veggies as a snack also and look into lite food. I would think the better brands should carry it. Also excercise. Walking some should help also. |

| I was in the same situation with Lady years ago and didn't realize how much overweight two pounds really is on a small dog. I learned the hard way when Lady was diagnosed with diabetes at age seven. Just like with people, obesity and genetics are the two big causes of diabetes in dogs. If Lola is like my Lady, she lives to eat. I had no idea how I would get her to diet. Our salvation was frozen green beans. For some reason, most dogs love them. I thaw them slightly and cut them. Lady goes crazy for them! They are full of fiber so they fill them up. I found treat dispensing toys to be a real help. Lady inhales her food. I found a Buster Cube to be great to put her kibble in. It is fun for them to chase the cube around as it plays on their natural prey instinct. It also slows them down and gives their brain a chance to register that they are full. I put her cut green beans in a Busy Buddy Twist and Treat. She loves that, too. What are you feeding her now? I recommend a good quality higher protein food instead of the reduced calorie foods that have a lot of fillers. Dogs do really well on higher protein diets and it is much easier for them to digest since it is closer to their natural diet. Lady lost weight on Natures Variety Prairie. The biggest thing is your mindset. You control the food so you have to resist the big brown eyes. Remind yourself it is for her health. Trust me, you don't want her to become diabetic and need insulin shots twice a day plus all the health complications that come with the disease. Being overweight is also very hard on their joints, especially their knees. Good luck! |

| thanks for replying everyone! She hasnt had any treats since the vets! Its been hard and I can tell shes hungry more i guess from the fewer calories shes taking in... She was on royal canine until this past month now shes on science diet she always loved our bigger dogs food and she would try and steal it so we got her a bag.. it was time for her to get on adult food! I feed her 1/4cup 2 times a day.. I dunno if thats the right amount.. shes 8 pounds

| Lamb Meal Brewers Rice Rice Flour Ground Whole Grain Wheat Ground Whole Grain Sorghum Corn Gluten Meal Cracked Pearled Barley Animal Fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and citric acid) Chicken Liver Flavor Soybean Oil Those are the first ten ingredients on the list for the science diet adult food...this is the lamb and rice, if you have a different adult formula then you could prolly sub lamb meal for chicken meal. Either way it has ground whole grain wheat(filler), Ground whole grain sorghum(filler), Corn Gluten Meal(filler) and chicken liver flavor(why not have a small amount of liver) The fact is it isnt the best food in the world for dieting, if you want her to lose weight while still maintaining the nutritional needs for her then you might want to get something grainless like orijen or merricks. Just a bit of info for you. try being overweight yourself and eating nothing but grains all day...you probably wont lose any weight. I really hope this helps and have a greaaat day |

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I got told the same thing last week - but for both Magic and Sailor - and their weight is creating issues with their knees (Magic) and back (Sailor). My vet said cut back their food and no treats. He said their food was ok - they are on Natural Balance Fish and Potatoe......and while we talked about switching to a "diet" food - with all of Magic's stomach issues - he suggested staying with the same food - just less of it. It has been a week and Magic seems to be handling the change better than Sailor. The vet said the best thing we could do for them is exercise....start slowing and build up.....not only will they lose weight but will also strengthen their muscles. Good luck .....and know you are not alone....we are right there with you!!

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Oh Kelly, I know JUST how you feel girl. We were told the exact same thing when Tatum went to the vet a few days ago. I pretty much already KNEW she was too chubby...you can tell just by looking at her, lol. And it's not a hard thing to figure out because she is so much smaller than my Stedman is, and her belly is so much bigger She was also diagnosed with LP in both back legs so we have seriously GOT to get this weight issue under control. Having extra weight on her does absolutely NO GOOD for her little legs. I have started both of my babies on a feeding schedule as of yesterday. I put their food out twice a day now, whereas before, I free fed. They get their food when they wake up, and then a little before they go to bed at night. I will see how this goes for a while...if they act like they are starving, I may have to feed them 3 times a day instead of two. But both my vet and Tatum's breeder said that at their age (1 and 2) - twice a day is fine. We'll see how it goes, and hopefully this will help get my little girl right where she needs to be weight wise

| Peas are much higher on the glycemic index than green beans so if you are looking for weight loss, green beans, zucchini, even celery are a better choice. |
