What is your opinion allowing your yorkie lay in your bed? Hi! I would like to know, if you allow your yorkie take nap with you in bed. if you allow your yorkie go to your own bed??? I hear a comment in the TV News , that we dont allow pets go to human bed, to prevent bacterias and other insects... what do you think??? I have many friends that have diffrends breeds dogs and sleep with them in bed... this is confusing would you let me know what you think ... I love my yorkie!!! I like to have him with me. Thanks ! Libna:) |
my yorkies sleep on their own bed......that is just my personal preference. I know alot of people who let their dogs sleep with them, and never have heard of a bacteria problem. By the way......i'm near Rochester! |
I let mine sleep with me and love it. Wouldn't have it anyother way! :D Sometimes I don't even get a pillow cuz someone is sleeping on it :D |
Hi Paw-Friends !!! Thanks for your Reply! Thanks for your reply... Believe me my stepmother always have dogs at home ... she always allow them to sleep with her in the bed.. I wish to do the same with my Yorkie Paco , but My husband talked to me about the TV News... so...That why I want to hear about what Pet Lover think about it!!! They are very protecting when sleeping with the owner... but right now Paco sleep in his crate at night... still posting, I love hear what do you say in that situation... ;) Hugs! Libna |
I usually get to sleep with my Lizzie in my bed! I think she is happiest in our bed! |
Mine has slept with us for at least 4 1/2 years or more, and I really can't sleep unless she is there. I wake up during the night and feel her next to me, and I know she is safe. My husband is the one who started this. He felt sorry for her sleeping alone in her kennel.;) |
Livi sleeps, each and every night, in our bed. She even (typically) takes her daytime naps on our bed. When we get our next Yorkie puppy, he will also be allowed to sleep with us. :) Tammy |

Some people allow the dogs to sleep with them, some yorkies have their own beds, and some are crated at night...it's really your personal preferance I think. My yorkies sleep in our bed. |
Ours sleep with us. Reggie sleeps at the foot of the bed. But Coby sleeps at the top of the bed. There is just nothing better than having a little one snuggle up to you for safety and comfort. It reminds me of when my kids were preschoolers and would come climb in bed with me in the middle of the night. Someone here on YT told me something that was precious. I don't remember who or the exact wording (so whoever you are please forgive me for slaughtering this, but I've always remembered it - I think she had a girl). "I reach out to her in the night, not to let her know that I am there, but to assure myself that she is there." I just found that to be so incredibly true. |

Thanks Dear for your post!!!;) Libna |

I think one of the greatest joys I have is waking up in the middle of the night and being able to pet Gizmo or to rub his belly.:D When he was little though, he slept in a playpen beside our bed because I was concerned that he might fall off. Now we have steps to the bed and I am very comfortable with him getting down by himself. He's also pee pad trained now.;) I wouldn't think you would need to worry about bugs or bacteria if you keep your yorkie groomed and up to date on flea meds. :) |

how that help!!!:) Thanks! Libna |
Media talks about alot of things not totally true. They can make us afraid to do anything. But the love of a dog is unconditional and if you keep your dog clean and your bedding clean and want to sleep with them then do that. If they have been in come bad conditions and then you let then come to bed after being at a park.......maybe the best things would be wash there feet and legs off before they come into your bed. The media doesn't always say why they report things to us. I have always slept with my dogs unless they were so small then they slept in a soft side bed and that was put by my legs. I love reaching out and holding that dog wrapped up in my arms and Getting those puppy kisses before we all go to sleep. I wouldn't have it any other way. |

Tessa sleeps with us under the covers every night:D Misty sheds too much so she has her own couch (full size)to sleep on in our room but she isn't allowed on the bed. I agree it is personal preference;) |
My pups gladly go to their bed in the kitchen cupboard (sans door) but are up at the crack of dawn leaping at the door, letting me know that it's time to get together. I let them out and they hurdle down the hall, barking and jumping. Then into bed. Sugar goes under the covers while Spice runs up and down my back snorting and then settles down at my feet. The neighbors haven't complained yet but my husband does growl on occasion. (when he lets them out). I'm really afraid of sleeping with them through the night as I might roll over or get them wrapped in the covers. |
I got my Yorkie at 6 weeks old, he is now 4 months old and has never slept anyplace else at night. He never wet in the bed either. He wakes me up and I put him on his puppy pad until he goes and then he is back in bed with us. Over the last 3 nights, we had to be out of town and could not take him with us. Both my husband and I were very lost without him at night. I kept reaching out for him and would wake up when I did not feel him. As for bacteria and insects.......... our children had bacteria and we let them sleep with us. Personally, I think way to much is made about nothing. If a person claims that they got bacteria and insects from allowing their dog in bed with them, I think if you got the whole story, the dog was the least of the problem.:aimeeyork |
Topaz comes to me @ 9:30 every nite and I know he wants to go to bed. He sleeps with me every nite and I wouldn't have it any other way. He wakes me up in the middle of the nite if he has to go potty so I take him out and he goes right back to our bed and goes back to sleep. He is like one of my children. |
Libna, first of all welcome to yt. This is a great place to be. My little Murfee has slept with us since the first night we got him..4 years ago. I love to have him curl up next to me. I recently went to visit a friend and she has several yorkies so I snatched one of them to sleep with me while I was visiting her. Almost all of my dogs all my life have slept with me. When we got married almost 40 years ago, hubby said no dogs in bed!!! He lost!!!! and now he loves having Murfee in our bed. |
Our little Peanut always slept with us. We had a routine. We would say, "it's bedtime Peanut" and he would run and jump up on the bed. Then he would lay on top of the covers on my husband's legs. When hubby would start getting sleepy, he'd say, "son, daddy's going to sleep now" Peanut would stick his nose under the covers and root around until he got underneath them and get in the bend of my knee and fall asleep. Sometime during the night he would end up on top of the covers at our feet between us. I miss that so much. I knew he was clean and I wash my sheets often. |
I have six and they all sleep with us. And when we babysit my sons yorkie, she adds to the mix. I love it and wouldnt have it anyother way. |

Kissie allows us to share our bed with her hahahaha Kissie sleeps in our bed since she was a puppy. Her favorite spot is between our two pillows. My husband and i love to have her in our bed. When sometimes she prefers to have her privacy and goes to her bed, we missed her and call her to join us.:) :aimeeyork :animal36 :animal-pa |
Sydney sleeps with us! My hubby actually will let her because she isn't as fiesty as the first yorkie we had. Syd will lay in one spot all night and I love knowing she's there. She lets me know every time one of the kids gets outta bed at night. |
my girls nap with us during the day and they sleep in their crates at night..so far no problems..i love napping with them..:D |
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with letting your Yorkie sleep with you. My dog isn't a purebred, but a yorkie poodle mix. He has slept with me every night for almost 12 years. He likes to be close to me, and I love having him close to me.:aimeeyork |
