| Food/Potty question So I've had my yorkie now for 6 days and he is doing really good so far. The only thing I don't know what to do is how should I feed him? Should I put him on a schedule? I have a cat and we've always just let him eat whenever...there is always food for him. But now that we have our little fur-butt I can't do that with the cat b/c I don't want our yorkie eating the cat food....heard it's not good for them. So I put the cat food up and only put it down a few times a day for him. Should I just do the same for the puppy to? If so how much should I feed him and when? And the potty issue. He's been doing okay on the potty training. At night he sleeps with me and we get up once and he hasn't peed on my bed as of yet. (thank goodness) BUT during the day he'll go pee outside 90% of the time but he poops in the house almost all the time. Am I doing something wrong? The first two days he pooped outside most of the time but now he's doing it all in the house and nothing outside. Any advice would be great. I am TOTALLY loving my little yorkie though. He is a sweetie pie! |

| Yorkie pups should be fed 3-4 times a day and pick it up in between. You could free feed if your pup doesn't eat too much that way. How much you feed depends on the dog and the kind of food.

| Mine are both diffrent. Chewy was always free feed cause he doesn't eat much. He was hand feed alot as a puppy... Sadie is 16 weeks today! I talked to my vet and at her age she gets a half a can (Large can) a day... or 3/4 of a cup dry food a day. She eats ALMOST all her food every meal. Her tummy is huge when she is done. I feed her every 5 hours and that gives her time to digest inbetween meals. But if your puppy is young then her you would need to feed more often. I feed Sadie every 3-4 hours when she was younger... Ask your vet and I'm sure people here can help. if you can free feed and the cat wont eat the food you may like to do that. Your cat can get to it's food if you put it up where the dog can't reach. Try the dryer and show your cat where it is. My cat jumps over a gate to get to his food and the litter box to.

| Thanks! We just put the cat food up on the counter where his food use to be. That's worked out good so far! Right now I'm just letting my little guy free feed. He doesn't eat a lot when he eats so I want to make sure he is getting enough. So I guess I'll try this out and see how it goes. |

| Just make sure he's going over to his bowl and eating often even if it's not a lot. You don't want him to have a hypoglycemic episode.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | I fed Nolee 3-4 times a day. You can read the instructions on the package. They usually need to potty, after naps, eating and exercising. I took Nolee out after this and about every hour, except at bed time (when he needed, which luckily wasnt much at all). I had him on a regular eating schedule and after a while knew when he would need to poop. I don't work, so I was able to do this! Now we have pretty much a routine of eating and pottying! Good Luck! It takes patience! Each furbaby is different!

| Thanks again for the advice. I'm new to the dog world so learning as I go. I'm a mom of three boys so I guess you can say I have some experience and I have A LOT of patience. My two youngest boys are 13 months apart and are almost 2 1/2 and 1 1/2. Everyone thinks I'm crazy for getting a puppy but hey I'm use to the craziness and I love it. |

| When I first got Buddy I tried the schedule, but he just wouldn't eat when I put the food down (he was always busy wondering what we were doing). Now I just leave the food down all day. He rarely eats when he is home alone, and will eat until he is full if we are sitting at the table or if I am cooking or cleaning in the kitchen. The pooping is something I had to work on with Buddy, too. When we first got him, I didn't want him home alone so I brought him to my mom's every day. He would go straight into the back yard and pee on every one of my mom's 15 small trees (I know by the 8th tree he probably had nothing left in him..lol), but he wouldn't poop outside. I started "overpraising" him when he finally pooped outside on accident. He liked the extra love and high praise so he started pooping outside but would still poop inside the house. After a while he just grew out of it. Well almost, if I leave the kitchen open at night he will poop on the linoleum. Hope that Helps!
