| What to feed my yorkie?? Hi all!! So I'm new to the dog world and I don't know what the best thing to feed my yorkie is. The breeder I bought him from had him on Pedigree small breed dry dog food. I'm really not sure that's the best stuff for him. I was reading the package and it just doesn't look the best. So what is something good that I could give him. He is 12 weeks old so he is still a puppy. I just really want to give him the best right from the start. I have a cat and he will eat ANYTHING but I know having a dog is different. So I'm looking forward to finding out what the best type of food is. Thanks in advance! Jen |

BANNED FOR NOT MAILING PRODUCTS PURCHASED | Hello and WARM welcomes to YT!!!! Congrats on your new baby! I think the key word is researching what's in dog food! get to know what the ingredients mean. You would be so surprised if you knew what some of this stuff is that these babies get fed! I feed mine, Holistic Eagle pack. It's a great food and very healthy! |

| Mine eat Canidae & Innova mixed. Innova, Canidae, Wellness, Solid Gold, Merrick, Natures Logic - Just to name a few. Go to your Local Independent Pet Store & get samples of a good 4-6 star food. Try this website out - I would use 4-6 star food. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...iews/index.php

| Thanks for the quick responses. I'm looking to switch him soon. How should I go about switching his food? Is it just like a baby going from formula to real milk? Like gradually? Should I go 75-25 then 50-50 and then 25-75 until I get all the new food? How long should it take to wean him off the old food and onto the new food? Thanks again guys!! |

You should pay attention to his stool - alot of babies get Diareah very easily when switcjing foods. Personally since he is still a puppy - I would wean him completely off old food at about 2 weeks later. Is he on kibble or canned food or Both - You need to pay attention to can food labels also.

| Right now he is on Pedigree small breed kibble. I read the label and I definitely don't want to feed him that. It's just what the breeder had her dogs on. SO I am definitely going to switch and I'll just do it slowly so hopefully we don't have nasty poops. Should I be giving him can food also? He's not on any right now. |

Just go to your local independantly owned Pet Store - they usually carry some of the better dog foods. Mine love Innova & Canidae. Canidae is for All life Stages (puppy & adult). Innova has a great puppy food!
