| A couple of ?'s from a new owner Hi, I have some questions. Gracie is 8 months old and our first yorkie. 1. She is skittish and jumpy is this normal? 2. She will not come. What is the best way to train her to come? 3. Is it ok to feed her can food of one brand and dry of another? I would like to feed her can food in the morning and dry in the evening but, I am worried she will refuse to eat the dry. She for the most eats dry. I would like to spoil her a little. We love her to death. We did not realize that she would be so independent. She has such character. She definitely is smart. If she gets out of the car, she will not come if you call her. If she gets out the door at a friends house she will not come if you call her. At our house she is not on a leash when she goes out. I know she can learn to come but we would like to do it correctly. Thanks for all you help. Suzan P.S. If this seems like it jumps around I apologize. I had my one only wisdom tooth pulled yesterday, so I am on some pain meds and my head is a little foggy. |

| It is okay to feed any mixture of foods you want as long as it works for her. Canned food is fine to feed. It is even okay to eliminate dry altogether. You she brush her teeth either way.

| Hi, I have some questions. Gracie is 8 months old and our first yorkie. 1. She is skittish and jumpy is this normal? Totally normal... these poor little guys are so tiny and everything is scary...however if you drop something and she gets scared don't pick her up and coddle her. you are just reinforcing her being scared... just ignore her and carry on.. i know it's hard when they start shaking and want to be picked up 2. She will not come. What is the best way to train her to come? My mom and i trained Layla "come" in one day.. it take two people... you each need treats and just go back and forth... saying "Gracie COME" and then BIG treats when she does.. only tell her once tho... and tell her good girl as she is coming... when you are training come and stay these "tricks" get BIG treats beacuse they can be life saving and you want your dog to listen 100% when you tell her to come or stay... so at first... you will ALWAYS reward COME... then start phasing it out... sometimes she gets treats.. somet imes just praise.. but enver phase the treats out all together or "come" won't work so well! 3. Is it ok to feed her can food of one brand and dry of another? I would like to feed her can food in the morning and dry in the evening but, I am worried she will refuse to eat the dry. She for the most eats dry. I would like to spoil her a little. that's fine! as long as it is a good quality food.. like Merricks or WEllness or Solid Gold. If she starts deciding she is going to hold out in the evening for the "good stuff" (wet) dont' give in.. when she is hungry enough she'll eat the dry stuff! | Welcome to YT & congrats on your new pup These lil pups can be a little scary at first. Your baby is new to your home, so you'll definately need to give her time to adjust and get use to what you expect of her. She's 8 mo's, so she's been in a different environment with different commands. You'll need to spend a lot of time with her on training... Cause she needs to at least respond to her name when you call... I feed my baby cheerios in the morning and kibble in the evening...And I sometimes mix kibble w/ wet to give her some variety. I personally dont do it daily (wet) because it can really change their stools if you give them a lot and because she uses potty pads in the house... its what works best for us. Also, I found that when you do mix it often... they start not wanting to eat the kibble anymore and start to eat around it.... so I keep it balanced.... I really hope you find all that answers that your looking for and again welcome

| Time is the only thing that will help her not be afraid. Whenever she demonstrates fear, just say, "It's all right," pat her on the head and go on. She'll soon learn when you say it's all right that she has nothing to fear. Your feeding regimen is fine. Just be sure you feed a high quality diet. No Wal-Mart or grocery store brands are high quality and most vet brands are not high quality, either. You'll be fine. Life is great with a yorkie, isn't it?

She is actually my 11 yr.old daughters puppy. I spoil her just as much. I am the one that tells my daughter what she needs to do and have her do the care of Gracie. |

| Welcome to YT!! How wonderful that you read labels!! There is a lot of good info about food on YT & many people homecook or do RAW. You have to find the right balance for your home. It sounds like you are on the right path to finding a good food. Good luck with the training. marcerella02 gave you a great way to train her.
