YT 2000 Club Member | How old is she? If she's a bay still yet, you'll have this, she's teething. When Maggy does this, I firmly tell her no bite and then put a toy in her mouth. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but she's only 10 weeks old, and eventually consitancy WILL pay off ;-) I after giving her a chew toy she still keeps biting me, I stop playing with her or petting her. Good luck with your girl, just keep being consistent and take baby steps ;-)

| Robert, first of all I want to welcome you and your new little one to YorkieTalk. You can rest assured that if you have a question, or need, you will be able to find answers here! My take on puppies is very different from most here and you will get a lot of great advice. I love puppies and especially what I call their "silly phases". Mouthing and biting are normal puppy behavior . That is one of the major ways they learn about the world around them. If you watch puppies playing together, they bite and shake their heads and growl .... it is part of their growing up that will all too soon disappear as they grow and mature. I love to have my pups chew on my hands and toes..... when they hurt me with their little needle teeth, I tell them "NO" in a firm voice and move the hand/toes out of their reach for a few seconds. It doesn't take long for them the learn two very important lessons: 1) they learn that the word no means that they are doing something that is unacceptable and 2) they learn to control how hard they bite. |

| fender is biting I know i am a new mommy. He has gotten worse. I know he is teething, and not trying to hurt us. Still I feel he needs to learn manners of when to do and when to not do things. I am currently using the sour apple to keep him from eating me. Any better ideas?

| I had a big issue with the mouthing with Bella, she hurt something fierce. I think probably because she was only 8 weeks when I got her she didn't get much sibling education. I tried the redirection with an acceptable chew toy and that didn't get me very far. What worked with her was yelping like she hurt me and ignoring her for a few moments. It worked or she outgrew it. | biting I am getting chewed up. She is so excited he chews on my face, neck, or whatever he can get. I am using sour apple to discourage the taste. I hate knowing he is not trying to hurt me. He is just tryine to teeth. It is hard to teach them

| Cooper is teething and will bite fingers, toes and anything else he can reach. I tell him "NO" firmly and put a toy in his mouth. I have found that the Nylabone is the one toy he really likes when his teeth are hurting. |

| Hi Robert, sounds like Lexi is teething! When she bites firmly say "NO" and give her her a chew toy. She's just learning and she was use to biting her siblings. Don't worry, she'll grow out of it. When mine got really bad I'd gently pick them up by the scruff of their neck and say "No" That's what their fur moms did! Keep us posted on your progress with Lexi! How does she like her surroundings? Best of Luck, Kathy Last edited by katcarasella; 01-24-2008 at 08:48 PM. |

| biting Fender is doing better with the sour apple. He hates the taste of it so much. He will really attack his 2 skin sisters when they are around and constantly tries to nibble on them. I have really tried to get the girls to tell him no like I do. It is hard to get them to understand that they have to reinforce what we are teaching fender

My Little Man! Donating Member | Maxi did that when he was a puppy. Everytime he would playfuly bite my fingers I would make my hand limb and say awww that hurts or cry, any sounds will work. He would stop in hesitation like what just happened. I would not pay attention for 20 seconds and then play with him. I did that a couple of times and he learned that he hurts mommy when he does that and stopped doing that. Hope it helps
