Robert, first of all I want to welcome you and your new little one to YorkieTalk. You can rest assured that if you have a question, or need, you will be able to find answers here!
My take on puppies is very different from most here and you will get a lot of great advice. I love puppies and especially what I call their "silly phases". Mouthing and biting are normal puppy behavior . That is one of the major ways they learn about the world around them. If you watch puppies playing together, they bite and shake their heads and growl .... it is part of their growing up that will all too soon disappear as they grow and mature.
I love to have my pups chew on my hands and toes..... when they hurt me with their little needle teeth, I tell them "NO" in a firm voice and move the hand/toes out of their reach for a few seconds. It doesn't take long for them the learn two very important lessons: 1) they learn that the word no means that they are doing something that is unacceptable and 2) they learn to control how hard they bite. |
