Well... I think it might take him a little longer to learn. You dont possibly expect him to be fully potty trained at 12 wks, do you? My baby is 10 mo's and still has accidents. If potty training outside isnt working, have you thought of puppy pads, so that he has a "spot" to go when your in the house? :) |

Do you let him run and play when he comes in the house even if he doesn't potty outside? You said that you take him outside right away when you get him out of his crate and then let him play in the house awhile when he comes inside. For the times that he doesn't go potty, he should go right back in his crate. Eventually he will learn that he gets playtime only after he pottys outside. When doing research on yorkies, you will find that they take a lot of time and patience to potty train. Sometimes up to a year. Good luck, you will find what works and train him :) |

He is only a baby. He probably doesn't have complete control of his bladder yet. You can expect him to have accident and/or not be fully trained til 6-8 months old. My Yorkie is 6 years old and still has accidents all the time. Oh well. |

Again, for you right now, I'd suggest belly bands just for the stress-factor. You need a few worry-free moments to regroup before you keep going. You obviously are trying very hard by taking him out so much. So give yourself a little break to catch your breath. Belly bands don't replace training, but they can help you through it. |
okay .. calm down a liiiiittle bitt :p i understand how you're feeling. Caden wasn't fully potty trained until 5 months old. patience is key ! (that doesnt mean much coming from the most impatient teenager in the world, though .... =P ) pick one method of training and stick to it . also, be persistant. your puppy can sense when you're tense or angry, and get nervous. so, remain calm. i, personally, recomend that you use pee-pee pads. put one or two by the door that you will use to let your baby outside. Then, when he learns to go in those spots, he will associate it with going outside. GOOD LUCK ! =] p.s. when he does go on the pads, or outside, praise him sooooo much ! but, if he pees inside, show him the spot, and give him a firm 'no' |
I'm sorry you're so frustrated. He's just a little tike. Why don't you use an ex-pen with a piddle pad on one side? In an area like a kitchen, with washable floors. It'll save you much frustration and perhaps you'll start to enjoy him more! Of course, I may not be one to talk..I have NO carpeting (hardwood floors) and a very nice washable inlaid in my kitchen. Nothing on the floor that can't be thrown in the washer! But then again, I've known for years that I'd always have dogs...lol. To be honest, the only one of mine that's reliably housebroken is 8 years old. I just figure if they catch on, great...if they don't, I still love 'em to pieces and keep tryin'!! Joy |
Are you using pee pads? He is very young, he does not understand yet, my 5mth old still has accidents, and thats just part of the training, Please dont get mad at him, it will only make it worse, he does not know how to hold his bladder yet, hang in there it will get easier, praise him when he does go:) good luck to you and him:) |

It sounds like you are doing the right things. Like one of the pp's said, if he doesn't go when you take him outside then no playtime, straight back in the crate. I assume you would like him to be cross trained for pee pads and outside? You said he has never used the pee pad at all, what type of situation is it set up in? The whole idea of potty training is really offering your pup the right option to use the potty. If you want him to use pee pads you need to put him in a situation where the pee pad is the only place that he will feel comfortable going. ie. an expen with food, water and a bed on one side and the pee pad at the other. That way you are setting him up for success and all you have to do is wait for him to get it done and do the happy treat dance till midnight. Having them in a crate is the same idea of course but IMO an expen is so much easier with these little ones. |
