Hello everone, Gizmo and I are new here, and I have a quick question. Gizmo just loves to eat bacon, eggs, and brocholli. Is there any harm in allowing him to eat any of these items?

I though I better ask before I continue to make a habit of rewarding him with a piece of bacon.

Welcome to YorkieTalk.

Eggs are fine. I wouldn't give seasonings. Broccoli is fine. Bacon is not good. It is way too salty and fatty and I would never give it. How about some boiled white meat chicken with no skin or fat?

I would say only occasionally. Especially when you are trying to teach him something very important like "Come". You have to make coming on command wayyy more rewarding than running off to do his own thing.
Broccoli is A-OK. I often give mine fresh fruits and veggies while I'm cooking. Just go easy on the people food in general or you'll have a little fatty!

You want to be very careful feeding him.
You don't want him to get pancreatitis. Here is some info on this.
I had a Yorkie get this, we never gave her table scraps, she had just had a litter of pups and we almost lost her due to pancreatitis.
It was a week of ER and touch and go for her.

PANCREATITIS -- Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, an elongated gland that serves many functions in the process of digestion and metabolism. When digestive enzymes that normally are excreted into the intestinal tract are activated in the pancreas instead, they cause inflammation. Foods high in fat, or a lot of greasy table scraps, tend to trigger pancreatitis.
This is a serious, potentially life-threatening disease. Mortality is upwards of 20 to 25 percent. Affected animals will have severe abdominal pain, loss of appetite, lethargy, depression, vomiting and diarrhea. Dehydration is also a danger.

I always heard pork is not good at all for dogs. I dont feed mine pork at all. I read one site that said it was poisionous for dogs but dont remember where I found it.

Does anyone know WHY pork is supposed to be bad? Is it b/c it can be so fatty and lead toward Pancreatitis? just wondering if anyone know's the why.

I mean, if you had a fresh ham, not a virginia ham or bacon, would that be ok?

high in fat and salty...read the foods harmful to dogs up above that I put on there..it gives a whole long list of bad foods for pets

I second this. We've been there 3 times. DO NOT give your dog anything fatty, even if it is drained well.

I read that small bred dogs can not break down fat like big dogs do. Chewy never gets table scraps because we gave him steak once that had NO FAT AT ALL ON IT.... (A few tiny peices mixed in his food) He wound up with runny stools for three weeks and at one point threwe up blood!!!!

They exrayed him to be sure he didn't eat anything sharp...The vet bill was 300.00 and we were cleaning up dog poo FOR EVER!!! Not to mention the scare we had!!!!

wow now i am wondering, my dog looovves fillet minion. My boyfriend likes his food very plain nothing on the stake at all. He puts it in the broiler and when its done he gives some little pieces to Maxi. I think fillet minion is the cleanest meat right? I hope I am right because Maxi goes bananas when he sees fillet minion
