My friend is devastated - yorkie sedated for grooming

She told me. She said it was very nice of you to e-mail her. I hope you get through to your friend because I know she is just as devastated as my friend. The sad thing is, is that there were so many people involved in getting this dog, my friend, her husband, her mom, her mother in law, her father in law that Buffy just through pictures had already become a part of all of their lives. She told me that her mother in law sends her e-mails ever day saying how she is so excited to be getting Buffy and that she loves her already. It's just horribly sad.

I am a groomer and I own my own shop however I have not nor would I ever sedate a dog, large small any size, first of all it is illegal for any one other than a vet to sedate a dog puppy or any other animal. This groomer should be sued and her bussiness license should be striped from her. It is not allowed in my shop. I will groom a dog that has been sedated by the owner or by the vet however I try to do all dogs without any sedation, most are ablle to be worked with and calmed down even if they have had previously bad experiences. As for why would a three pound yorkie be hard to groom well I have to say the smaller the dog the harder it is to handle due to its not as safe to try to work with a dog thats so small you cant properly hold it...Had I been this groomer I would have done my best and if it was not possible to groom this particular dog I would have called its owner and advised them to take her to another groomer,,,sometimes the dogs can sense if you are good with them and if they get those feelings then you can be an excellent groomer and cant do a particular dog at a given time ,,,they are like humans some times they just dont like some people...I only have had one I couldnt make friends with in my whole life..But the groomer was dead wrong thats just unacceptable to sedate anything...Cindy

The dog is just laying there and won't eat and can't lift her head up. The breeder took the dog to the vet and the vet told her they must have given the dog a sedative and they finally got the groomer to admit to it but that doesn't change anything the vet said that the dog has brain damage and will have to be put to sleep if she doesn't just die on her own in a few days. This happened 4 days ago and nothing has changed. She is just laying around all limp. My friend is hysterical (she just found out and is crying hysterically - I had to go outside with her so she could calm down). She doesn't know how she is going to tell her mother in law this. We are all just so sad. If anyone happens to know of a yorkie that is needing to be re-homed or something please let me know.

Oh No, this is awful. That is one of the cruelest things I have ever heard! Poor baby.

I am more concerned about the poor doggie.

I hope your friend's M-I-L can find another Yorkie, but this is intolerable.

My sympathies go out to the poor baby. I hope he recovers and has NO brain damage. so sad.

I am so sorry for you all How awlful..I hope you are going to do something to the groomer like ruin her rep if you can not take her to court. Or both..
I have not read all the comments to this awlful happening.

I just got off the phone with the breeder. Poor little Buffy died this morning. RIP sweet baby girl.

She also told me her neighbors Yorkie had 4 puppies 2 weeks ago and let momma out to pee and someone took her. so now shes helping bottle feed two of the puppies for her and shes a school teacher and are bottle feeding the other two.

I agree, put her out of business!!! It should be illegal for a groomer to give a sedative to any dog!!!! This is wrong!!

Yes they have been searching for her, They dont think she would go far on her own because of not wanting to leave her puppies for very long. so they are pretty sure some one picked her up, they live on the corner road kind of off the main streets. I pray that they return her or someone sees them with them so that she can be returned to her pups.

My heart is breaking for all those involved the these yorkies. Please keep us up to date. My prayers are with them all!

Well I talked to the breeder again, I guess all shes asking for is the paid vet bills , I told her she should sue the pants off her for what she did, It wont bring Buffy back but, she should be arrested for practicing medicine without a licenses, That is uncalled for and so senseless for her to sedate that poor baby.she had no business whatsoever to do that.

I read these stories and get so freaked out. I may just stay at the groomers and watch G get groomed. Scares me.
