| My friend is devastated - yorkie sedated for grooming I don't know if you all remember but YorkieShadow had posted back in November about a yorkie that her friend was offering to her and she didn't know if she wanted it because it hadn't been around children. Well a friend of mine ended up getting it for her mother in law for Christmas. Her mother in law was over the top excited about finally getting a yorkie because she had always dreamed of getting one but thought they were too expensive. Well the dog is in Ohio so my friend happens to be from Ohio so she was going to Ohio next weekend to pick up the dog. The breeder usually grooms her own dogs but decided to take the dog to a groomer for a special grooming for her new owner. Well my friend got a call today and the breeder is so upset and my friend is now hysterical. Apparently the groomer gave the dog (who is 3 or 4 lbs) a sedative and didn't ask or tell the breeder. The dog is just laying there and won't eat and can't lift her head up. The breeder took the dog to the vet and the vet told her they must have given the dog a sedative and they finally got the groomer to admit to it but that doesn't change anything the vet said that the dog has brain damage and will have to be put to sleep if she doesn't just die on her own in a few days. This happened 4 days ago and nothing has changed. She is just laying around all limp. My friend is hysterical (she just found out and is crying hysterically - I had to go outside with her so she could calm down). She doesn't know how she is going to tell her mother in law this. We are all just so sad. If anyone happens to know of a yorkie that is needing to be re-homed or something please let me know.

| OMG! What a horrible story! I have heard of groomer's sedating dogs before. It's especially dangerous when they use cage dryers because they are unattended. It reminds me of the case of the daycare that was busted here a few years ago. They were sedating the children with Benedryl, even the babies by putting it in their bottle. A little boy overdosed and died before the authorities found out what was happening. I can't imagine what your poor friend must be going through. |

| That is HORRIBLE! The groomer should have to pay some consequences!

| Oh that is horrible I hope they sue that groomer. If a groomer did that to one of my dogs I would be in jail for what I would do to them

| This is horrid!! I wish I had a yorkie for her. I remember following the story about this little one These things will not bring the baby back - but the attorney general needs to be called, the BBB, & all the media - word needs to get out about this groomer, so someone else does not lose their precious pet. The media would very likely do a story about this!! I am not a lawsuit happy person (and I could have sued over the death of my female bichon yrs ago & I didn't - but wished I had, even though her life span was nearing an end) But I would be filling suit against this groomer for sure!

| I have heard of sedation for grooming before. It isn't unheard of but very sad. Please everyone make sure you trust your groomer.

| That's so aweful!! I know it happens, but it just blows me away that groomers sedate dogs without the owner's permission...honestly, they shouldn't be sedating any dogs period! When I worked for a grooming shop/dog boutique, some owners brought their dogs in sedated but the owner or a vet had to do it - NOT a groomer! Seriously, the more I read about grooming experiences, the more I think I will NEVER take my dogs to a groomer ever again once I leave College Station (I know the owner and groomers at the store here where I used to work and trust them)...but I think I would be scared to death to leave my baby at a groomer I didn't know...sedation, shaving, accidents..ugh..it's scary. That poor dog...I feel so bad for it and all the people involved What's going to happen to that groomer?

| I think they need to get it out about the name of the groomer and make sure others are aware of this. Why should another dog go through the same thing. If the groomers need to do that to a 3lb dog they don't need to be grooming at all. I feel sorry for all involved. But something needs to be done.

| I can't understand why people are so careless. It is this attitude that they are just dogs and they were expendable. If this was a human child this groomer would be facing criminal charges. I'm sure this wasn't the first time this groomer sedated a dog. The first time my pup was at a groomer's, I made my mom go and sit there while he was being groomed. She came back and told me that the husband of the groomer who helps around was making comments about how all dogs should be kept outside because they are just dogs. Needless to say my mom gave him some harsh words and my pup will never go there again. Situations like this just plain suck. Perfectly healthy puppy can't be brought back and what will be the consequences awaiting this idiotic callous groomer? I am very sorry for the puppy and your friend Ronda. I hate hearing stuff like this because I just feel like getting postal. |
