| Lucy turning into a terror? Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a long time. I've been busy with work and life in general. But, my little Lucy is turning into a terror (I also posted this in the training section.) Before I get into her terror-like behavior I will give everyone a little update. Not sure if anyone remembers but I was going back and forth about whether or not to have Lucy spayed because of her BAT results and elevated bloodwork levels. Well after extensive talk with the vet and an x-ray of her liver. I went ahead with the spay and she did amazingly well! Now on to my problem. It seems that she has recently developed a number of disturbing behaviors. 1. She attacks our toes when we walk and grabs our socks at any chance she gets. She isn't teething anymore and not really sure what provokes her to do this. 2. Grooming. When I give her a bath on my own at home. I have had to start taking her into the shower with me because when she's in the sink she climbs out of the tub or splashes all around. Meanwhile leaving me with scratches all over my arms. 3. I took her to the professional groomer, and they weren't able to even trim her ears because she wouldn't sit still to have them hand-scissored and she wouldn't let them get near her face with the electric clippers. They also said she had severe cage aggression, and even asked if she had gone to puppy training class, which she has and passed with flying colors. The cage aggression is also something the vet has mentioned. The funny thing is this isn't an issue at home. At home she sits and sleeps in her cage without making a noise. Usually she's only in there at night or when we are at work. So I'm thinking maybe at the vets and the groomers she hears and sees people and that aggravates her because she is a very people/puppy friendly dog. She likes everyone to see her and she wants to see everyone. I need advice or help on how to remedy this situation. I don't want her to be a terror to groom for the rest of her life. I'm at my wits-end. Because she needs a bath about every 2 weeks, due to allergies and being outside for pottying and everything.

YT 2000 Club Member | Not sure if this will do the trick or not but Maggy (my yorkie) keeps going under my desk where I have all my cords. Someone here suggested bitters apple spray. I wonder if you all sprayed bitter apple on your socks (I know, yuck, lol) if she's stop doing this? It'd be worth a try. As for the cage aggression, I'd chalk that up to being in a new place (the vets and groomers) and not liking it at all. She loves her family, I mean, heck, if I was a dog and put in a crate and taken somewhere new and didn't know anyone, I'd be making some racket to, lol.

| She's already been to a puppy training class and is clicker-trained. I'm not sure where all of this terror-like behavior is coming from. Yeah we've tried the bitter apple and the Yuck spray and it doesn't seem to phase her. We've sprayed it on all of woodwork and even our bare feet but it hasn't stopped her from chewing our toes and chewing up baseboards. Then she'll come up and give us a kiss and that nasty taste is on our lips and mouths. It's almost like i"m punishing myself. Any suggestions on how to get her to calm down in the bath-tub, etc?

| Has something happened in her little world that may have provoked this behavior i.e. work schedules changing, new addition to the family, being left alone longer than normal, lack of excersize? Seems like she's frusterated with something, or maybe has been "ruling the roost" for too long?? BTW- how do you NOT let the yorkie rule the roost?????? Maybe a re-run through an obediance class would re-establish your pack leadership??? As far as the grooming, my Ranger was combed daily from the second I got him. After a few weeks he started getting nasty and biting me, the comb, the nail clippers, etc. My dog trainer told me to lightly grab his little cheek, look right into his little eyes, and tell him to "knock it off" in a mean tone. I didn't want to do this cuz he's so freakin' cute, but with his naturally dominant behavior, I figured I had to try it. It took one or two nastys and he hasn't had any issues since, and it's been four months. Good luck and keep us posted!

| Not an expert but it sounds like she and not you are in control. And she may be testing her waters. try telling her no bit when she snips at your feet and if she doesn't stop put her in timeout. |

| Perhaps try a mobile groomer if possible? Much less stress than being caged before/after the grooming with all the noise. I can't do the grooming myself, I get so stressed out I know it carries over.

| Thanks for all the advice. Nothing has changed except that we were home more during the holidays since we were off of work. But I will try the cheek thing next time I bathe her, and maybe I will give that mobile grooming a shot.
