| Naughty Mia!!!! Well.... I'm finding that our new little girl, Mia Bella - is quite the naughty little tart!! Being a kennel dog and already almost 10 months old, she's very fearful of everyone.... she bonded with me right away - because I think I remind her of her first mommy.... (after attempting to lunge out of my arms the very first time I held her) But she is being just NAUGHTY with my room mate and the kids!! She's afraid, although you wouldn't know it the way she charges them if they come near anywhere she is.... she'll run up barking and snarling... then retreat.... watch them till they go to leave the room... and then chase after them when they turn to leave and bite at their feet / heels..... <tsk, tsk> shame, shame! She's only been with us a few days and is just settling in and trying to get comfortable to her new surroundings.... and I know it will take some time for her to get used to people running in and out... Being raised in a kennel, she likely didn't have much human companionship, besides that of her first mommy.... and even though her owner told me she spent lots of time around her 5 year old son, I'm not sure that is so - since she is not the least bit comfortable with my kids. (10, 12 and 18 at home). Today, I was lying on the couch with Gracie and Mia.... Mia was curled up on my chest.... my room mate came in and walked up to her..... of course, Mia began snarling and growling this low grumble right away.... the closer my room mate got, the louder Mia growled.... now, generally when she does this, I tell them all to just keep walking up to her slowly, talking quietly to her and gently reach out to pet her on the head or back.... and it's always been fine... they pet her and she (doesn't like it) but she stops growling... until they turn to walk away! lol This time, my room mate bent down to whisper to Mia and give her a little kiss... and Mia lunged up and bit her in the face!!! Poor thing, she just doesn't realize that she can trust them all..... I know this is common sometimes.... even with Yorkies who haven't been kennel dogs - but just have some possessive traits... We'll continue to take it day by day and I'm certain once she feels more comfortable with all the new people around her, she'll become more trusting with them. Until then.... I have my own little body guard!! lol She's starting to kiss me lots more and I love that.... she's such a cuddler and a love bug... she just needs to realize that there's more than just me in this big ol' world who want to love her!!!

| We have been just where you are Pixie Bres sweet little girl came from a home where 32 other yorkie lived with one lady. Her husband lived wit her but he was not around the dogs hardly at all. It took a good 2 months for Pixie to warm up to my hubby. She never Bit any one but she sure did growl ALOT (she still does) This is what happens when Dogs are not socailized with humans. we took her to puppy classes and take her out and about to visit. It does help but the one thing you need to do is ..... If Mia Is trying to (Protect you) you need to let her know that is not ok. set her down on te floor if she does that and tell her no. If not it will just get worse.. good luck.. she is a doll |

| What you described is called territorial aggression associated with fear. It's very common in dogs that have been raised in a kennel or in an abusive/neglectful environment. Give her some time and see how she does but you may need to work with a behaviorialist because this behavior can be very difficult to change and can quickly spiral out of control.

She'll be fine in time, I just wish she didn't feel so insecure.... Yes, she does do the "protecting mommy" thing as just this evening, bit my 12 year old daughter right in the nose! She wasn't even near Mia, but had walked up to me to show me her homework while Mia was on my lap here at the computer. And yes, I immediately put Mia on the floor and told her a strict "NO! Naughty Girl!!"..... she just curled up around my feet and continued to bark at my daughter... I then sat my daughter right in my lap and gave her a big ol hug.... Mia went crazy barking but sat still at my feet. I told her shhhhhhhh and my daughter talked quietly to her.... in a few moments Mia was quiet, but still leary... my daughter got up and knelt down to pet Mia, which she allowed her to do... and then turned to walk away.... Mia chased her..... ugh! Everyone in the house has picked her up and held her... which she doesn't mind... she doesn't squirm or try to jump down... doesn't growl or try to bite them.... it's just when people are coming towards her... or walking away.... "Baby steps".... but we'll get there.... she's worth the effort!! I think once she is a tiny bit more settled here at home, we'll venture out to PetSmart and visit some of the locals! I think she'll like the puppy part, but the parent part will surely give her a spook!!
