| I think you should wait. I thought 16weeks was usually the earliest. With smaller puppies they usually try to wait a little longer until they gain more weight. I think my Kaylee was about 2.5lbs when she got her last regular shot and the vet still recommended waiting 3 more weeks for rabies. I think it depends on what the city/county rules are where you live but I think you can wait either until 6 months or a year before it has to be done. |

I looked it up and you're in luck being in Colorado. There aren't any state laws about rabies. It's regulated by the counties. It also said that the quarantine period can be determined by the health officer. In those states that have rabies laws, they are pretty hard and fast, especially in states like here in North Carolina where they do have cases of rabies. There is no exemption for medical reasons, unfortunately, and the laws are strictly enforced. At least we are a three year state, though. | |

| In Texas they must have it by 4 months old but I dont know if there is a difference if they are too tiny.

| I'm reviving this old thread as I just found out that Pennsylvania law requires that all dogs are vaccinated for rabies at four months. Oscar is just about to turn four months old and weighs a little over 6 lbs. Am I safe going ahead and getting him vaccinated? I had wanted to wait until 6 months, but I can't even get him into the groomer until he's gets it. I'm also leaning towards going ahead and getting him vaccinated because we're spending a lot of time outside, and my neighborhood is full of giant, semi-docile squirrels and chipmunks - it's just a matter of time until he goes after one. Any thoughts? |
