| Spaying Sorry if this is in the wrong section..I just have a general question. Is it normal for dogs to stay overnight at the vets after getting spayed? I was talking to someone today and told them Lily would have to stay overnight and she acted like that was unheard of. Just wondering if anyone else had to leave their babies. Lily is going on Monday and I can pick her up Tuesday. I am a nervous wreck. Thanks

| Either way is normal. Ellie's vet releases the same day and I like it that way. That doesn't mean that keeping them is wrong. BUT, please proceed cautiously. It is okay to leave them if someone is there the WHOLE night with them and they better be AWAKE. Please do not leave her there unsupervised (some vets do this and it really makes me mad). What if something went wrong and nobody is there to catch it. They might have a tech stay and watch which is a lot safer. You could bug them to let you bring her home the same day since it doesn't hurt anything as long as she comes out of the anesthesia fine and your house is quiet.

| If there is someone monitoring the dogs 24/7 (overnight) then it is probably a good idea to let your baby stay overnight. That way someone is keeping an eye on them while you are sleeping and knows what to look for in case something goes wrong. But I would NEVER leave Lacy overnight if no one is there. What good is that?? More dangerous in my opinion with no one there to monitor them. In this case, it is better for your baby to go home with you so at least someone is there with them. I think it's rediculous when a vet requires a dog to stay overnight but there is no one there

| I hear of both occurring. Madeleine did not stay overnight. I dropped her off first thing in the morning and they let me pick her up at 5:30 in the afternoon. I agree with the other posters that if no one is staying with your puppy all night that it is not a good idea.

| I wanted to add that I stayed up with Ellie all night, so that is why I feel okay about bringing them home that day. I was there to watch her.

| Seth and Sasha both spent the night but Melissa stays when any dog has to spend the night that is why I love Seth and Sasha's Vet. If no one would have stayed there is no way they would have stayed!

| Thanks for all of the responses. The vet's office is basically their house so there is no question as to whether someone will be there all night. I worry about everything though so I just wasn't sure whether staying over night was something common. I will ask to take her home the same day and see what they say. Thanks again

| I've found it depends on the vet. Ours has them dropped off by 7:30 am and then we pick up around 5:00pm. Of course if there was any reason they felt they should keep them overnight they would decide that before discharging them.

They may be there all night but are they awake?

| The 2 different vets I have used have kept them overnight. I know they're not there with them all night, which doesn't make sense to me..When I have Ginger spayed, I'm going to tell them I want to bring her home where I will be here..I did that when my other one had a tumor removed recently, and they let me pick her up that day around 4:30. |

| I asked one time at the old vet we used, they said well sometimes someone comes in to check on them..I had to leave a maltese I used to have overnight, they had originally said I could pick her up the day of surgery(which they had never done before), but, when I had gone to get her, they said I could see her, but, she wasn't coming out of the anesthesia as fast as they had thought, so they wanted to keep her all night..anyway, that night, they had gone back up there(the vet did) around 2:00 a.m and she was doing well, but, most of the time, there is no one up there once they go home for the night, until early the next morning...I'm going to let them know before I leave Ginger for her spaying, I will be bringing her home..they may have to stay later to make sure she's okay first, but once she's awake, she's coming home with me.. |

| Ellie's vet is 24 hours and there is always a vet there (sometimes sleeping) but there is a tech or two with the animals awake overnight. I would leave Ellie with that setup but they say it's fine to bring them home. I stayed up all night with Ellie anyway. I guess I would have to leave her if she wasn't coming out of the anesthesia right, so I wouldn't use a vet where there isn't anyone there all the time just in case.

| Well the office is on their property so that's why I figured someone would be there all night. I could be wrong then. I will have to try and call today to get some information. Lily is already 9 months and I waited so long to have this done. Thanks again
