Well i asked a new vet..

Lucy had the laser surgery, along with 4 teeth removed, bloodwork and an overnight stay. Her total came to $600. I think the area in which you live has a lot to do with pricing...When I picked her up I would have never known she had just gone through surgery she was so spunky.

I don't have mine spayed at the animal shelter, I go and get a voucher, and then take it to my vet, and then I don't have to pay the vet anything..It really is much better to have them spayed before they ever go in to the first heat..I always say you have to have 100% faith in your vet, and if you don't, then find another one..

Yes, she can have her dewclaws removed. I recommend it because they can tear on something, causing her more pain then just having them removed to begin with. She'll already be on pain meds for her spay and be resting and recovering for that so she's not going to be in much more pain from having her dewclaws removed. Definitely find a vet that will do it. I can't believe the wouldn't do it

So far as staying overnight, I think it is okay to leave them overnight as long as they have 24-hour staff monitoring them constantly. I'm just not okay with staying overnight if no one is there to watch them. The person whose dog had complications brought her home because no one was at her vet's office overnight. She said her dog would have died there because no one was there. So yeah, when no one is there to watch them, no way would I leave my dog overnight.

Hha - $45 must not include any pre-op bloodwork or pain meds. It is VERY important to get bloodwork done when anaesthesia is involved....in most cases, the dog is fine but there could be something going on that you don't know about and the anaesthesia could kill them

The $45 pays for the aneshtesia and spaying/neutering..Mine have never been on paid meds afterwards, and have always done fine..They keep them overnight here for the spaying, but, I'm going to ask to bring Ginger home the night of her spaying when I have her done..You have to pay for bloodowork if you want it done, but, I've never had that done before..

I don't think I would use that vet office. I wouldn't want anybody pushing me to spay a dog that was less than 2 pounds at 4 months. That's crazy. You did hte right thing by waiting. I would pay $650 if I had all the faith in the world in that vet. I paid $600 for Ellie's oral surgery and I'm glad I did because the vet that did it is very skilled in the dental area. Money is the last thing that I think about when it comes to surgery. Go find a vet that you trust and go from there. Anybody can charge $100 for a spay and turn out to be a butcher and not use the best meds and procedures. If a vet charges less than about $250 for a spay here in Michigan I would hope they do them at low cost and that isn't the normal cost for abdominal surgery because cheap isn't always best.

I see what you're going through now and it makes me not want a Yorkie under about 4 pounds.

Believe me, it's about $200 to have them spayed here, but, because of the voucher we buy for $45 through the animal shelter(to help keep from having unwanted puppies/kittens), we get it done for $45 with anesthetic included..it doesn't pay for blood work, but, still, $45 is a lot better than the $200 I would pay without it, and I've used the voucher on all of my dogs, and they've all come through with flying colors

Thank you for your opinion You said it good I would pay $600 also but only if i trust that vet completely and know they would do a good job and have experience spaying tinies. The vet that i went to, they seem like they are all about the money so i don't think i want to go there. I'm still on a search cause I love London dearly and would kill myself if something happened to her for not researching well. So i would rather wait and find the right vet to do it, also for Sophie. But the good thing is i already got good leads from YTers There is a place in Jersey and a place in LI, the only thing is i need to figure out how i will get there

I'm going to find out about that voucher, thats a good idea, the only thing is i really don't think the vets here will take it. But i am going to try

That's great that you can get all that money off with a voucher. Things are cheaper in the south, so $200 is probably right if you didn't get the discount.

Atleast Ellie's vet offers low cost spay/neuter ($85 plus $100 for bloodwork). I would expect to pay over $500 for an abdominal surgery that they don't offer a deal on though.
