Does my puppy have Fleas?

That was Riddicks baby picture. He is actually 3 in Feb.. I have 2 dogs in my house.. Riddick and the puppy Mischa.. I'd never put a collar on my puppy, and I threw out Riddicks flea collar already..

I would give him a nice warm bath. Be sure that he doesn't get chilled. I warm towels in the dryer for my little guys and turn on a little space heater. I start bathing pups at 6 or 7 weeks to help them get used to the idea before they are old enough to develop strong opinions.

Flea collars are very dangerous. I'm glad you took it off. It doesn't sound like fleas to me. Royal Canin is infamous for causing itching. I would change his food. That may or may not be causing the itching though. It could be mange (demodectic or sarcoptic). I think he needs to see a vet.

Oh ok.. I'm taking off the collar now.. I didn't know they could harm him.. He's not a purebred yorkie. He's a mix of Yorkie and bichon/maltese I think..

Maybe it was the flea collar that was making him itch and scratch?

Also, when you rub him do you feel anything that feels like grains of salt or sand? If you do, part the hair and see if you can see any black grains, if you do find some get a wet cotton swab and rub the black grains, it the cotton turns red, that is flea "dirt" or flea poop, it's dried up blood. Then you will know he has fleas.

Here is a tip on catching the little suckers! -Keep a spray bottle with you. If you spot a flea, I squirt it with the liquid. They have a tough time moving when they are wet. Then I pluck it off and drown them in a glass with soapy water until they are dead. Keep them pinched between your fingers and let go UNDER the soapy water- Do not try to toss them in they can jump off the surface of the water! Ditto for the sink or toliet, I've had them leap back out and once they do that, you can't find it!

The spray bottle I use is either the Pantene Leave in Conditioner or the one I have mixed with water and cowboy magic that I use for grooming.

It wasn't my puppy that was wearing the flea collar, it was my dog..

Why did God create these things I don't know...(besides to drive dogs and their pet owners insane!!) lol
