Does my puppy have Fleas? I think I bought my baby with flea's.. I am not certain, but he is always scratching and I noticed that he has very thin hair on his forehead and behind his ears. I don't know if this is normal as I don't really remember that with Riddick. The Breeder that I bought him from had a very clean home. He was checked over by her vet and he has needles, but I don't know if they checked for fleas on the puppies.. Mischa is going to be 9 wks old tomorrow, and she told me not to bathe him until he's 4 months.. She told me to buy the dry shampoo and wash him with that. Which I have done already.. It has Tea Tree oil in it.. Does anyone have any suggestions to help him with his itch.. Thank you in Advance!! |
When I got Sachi, he had fleas; I had never seen one before in my life! Part the dogs hair and take a look. You can definately see the flees, so you will know if that is your problem. They are very fast though. |
You can also see flea poop in the hair when parted. sometimes fleas are so fast you cant see them, but there is always black flea poop in the hair. |

Fleas love the warmth..check his belly and armpits..in his groin and ear area too..they are fast little buggers..a flea comb wont help without some flea product to kill the fleas like advantage..he sure is a cutie pie!! Dawn |
I don't think the vet would have necessarily noticed. I know they didn't with my boy. I think you should call, see what they say. I wouldnt apply any flee medication without a vets approval. Your little boy is a doll! |
you can give him a bath. its ok, just make sure you dry him really well when your finished. Lots of members here swear by Dawn Dish Soap to kill fleas. Also if he's so itchy that he's losing hair you might want to have him checked for demadex mites by the vet. |

I found fleas with their brush. Fleas move soo fast and then JUMP. They are quick movers. I noticed a few tiny almost yellow sticky things on TeddE's skin and I think it might have been eggs. I used a flea and tick comb to get rid of them. I also have a bichon that gets terribly itchy from fleas so I have to be very careful when I let him out in flea season. I don't remember them losing hair or anything. Just tiny little red bite marks and the fleas dirt in the hair. |
If he is scratching a lot and his hair is thinning, I would take him to the vet. He could have fleas, mites, or just dry skin due to this time of the year or possibly an allergy to food or something else. |
Mischa is on Royal Canin puppy, I might change his food to something else that doesn't have Corn gluten in it.. I think I'll try to convince my hubby to take me up to Kirkland Lake to the pet store there it carries more stuff there, then at our petvalu.. I have looked through his fur and haven't seen anything. Riddick is wearing a flea collar and we are keeping an eye on him with that.. I have been following some natural remedies also.. Citrus repellent: You can make an effective flea repellent from lemon by cutting it into quarters and immersing it in boiling water. This is then steeped overnight to get you the repellent. By spraying this all over your pet, especially behind the ears and generally around the head, and also at the base of the tail and the ‘armpits’, you can rid it of fleas. Essential oil bath: If your pet is badly infested, it’d need an essential oil bath. So, draw the bath using a few drops of tea tree or lavender essential oils. i'd take the flea collar off. they can be too strong for our little yorkies. they're basically wearing a collar of poison around their neck. |
I've heard that too! I have heard some of the medications/ingredients in the collar can cause liver damage!! And yorkies being so small are so vulnerable. I just look and look and comb and brush. No powders. No baths. I am getting really good at finding them! :p |

GOOD! :thumbup: takeing off the flea collar. you can bath your puppy, dry him on a low heat low air and keep him warm afterwards. if you have used frontline that should have worked. thta puzzle me:confused: But it sounds more like an allergy to me. Mint and honey shampoo is good or get something with oatmeal in it I hope everything works out for you your baby boy is adorable |
