The sister isn't even married yet and will probably hear a lot of names she likes before she gets married, gets pregnant, has a daughter, and agrees with her husband on a name. What you name your dog is your business and no one else's, although I do sympathyze with you. When I got my first Bichon more than 10 years ago, I named her Chantilly Lace and called her Lacy. She was named before I ever found her as a tiny puppy and I told my family what I was going to name her. My son told me that his wife, my daughter-in-law, had a grandfather named Lacey and I didn't want to cause any problems. I thought about it and finally just asked my daughter-in-law if she would have her feelings hurt if I named my dog Lacy. She thought about it a minute and then burst out laughing and said "Mom, anyone would be honored to have one of your dogs named after them!" Lacy wasn't named after him, of course, and she didn't care at all. The man had been dead for several years. So Lacy was named Lacy. If my daughter-in-law had been bothered about it, I would have picked a different name for the sake of family harmony. I'm glad it didn't turn out that way. This was a case of someone with the name that already existed though, not a possibility in the future. You can't "own" a name. The only song I ever heard with my name in it was something called "Jeanette Get Your Hair Done" which was around when I was a teenager and sensitive to things like that. I had long hair that I was very particular about and I really hated that song! | |

| ![]() Same thing happened here, we had the name Lola picked out and then my sil got pregnant and announced they were very much considering the name Lola. They had no idea I had chosen that for our puppy(that's according to them). I asked my brother if he was ok with me still naming my puppy that and he said to go ahead(I didn't bother asking her ![]()

| ![]() You should name her Bella anyway. Your SIL may never have a girl. Sound like she could be a controlling person.

| ![]() I agree with the top post!! It would be really diffrent if she mentioned it before and you fell in love with the name.. But thats not the case and she isn't even expecting... I do understand how she feels about not wanting to share a name.. My God Daughters name is MaKayla... I wanted to name my little girl that when i had one lol.. But great mines think alike and my bestfriend named her little girl that and had no clue thats that the name i wanted .. So i have to come up with another one LOL... She will come up with something else if it bothers her that bad.. there are so many beautiful names out there... I even got told that i should have saved Mi'Leigh Brook for my first daughter... Well she is my first baby girl so.. Good luck with this issue! |

| ![]() Ha! There's a whole Seinfeld episode about this very thing. George decided he wanted to name his first child "Seven". He was upset when friends decided to use that name. |

| ![]() How old is SIL? What does Fiance' say about it? I guess I wouldn't start a war over it, but she sounds like she may be jealous. If you have a good relationship with her now, it might be worth thinking about. I think she is being unfair.

| ![]() I have a different take on the situation. It sounds like your Fiance's sister is a jealous. How old is she? Maybe you could try talking to her and explain to her that your this little precious furball will be YOUR daughter. And that it would consider it an honor for her to name her skindaughter the same name as your furdaughter. |

| ![]() I'd go for Bella, and if someday she has a baby she can still name it Bella if she wants. You can't have too many Bella's in the world.

| ![]() Why don't you consider going with Belle instead of Bella? It may suck that this could start a family war, but that's the reality. You marry your inlaws and it would be majorly sucky to be on bad terms already. It's definitely not fair, but I think that most people who are not furbutt lovers are going to side with a skin-momma, so it may be a losing battle as far as the family goes. Although the fact that she is not pregnant or committed to anyone is definitely on your side! |
