| Update- sorry it's kinda long Well we went and saw the new vet today. He read his entire chart from the first vet. He also looked at the x-rays and bloodwork from yesterday. He says that Marcus is too small (2lbs 8oz at almost 7 months). The problem as some of you who have read my other threads is that Marcus doesn't like to eat at all. We've been through so many different dry and wet food and he doesn't like any of them. Recently we have been homecooking to see how that works and he doesn't like that either. I explained that he just doesn't like to eat much. The dr looked at me like I was crazy and told me to hang on for a minuet. He took Marcus in the back to see if he would eat anything. They put four different foods in front of him. After a while the dr popped his head back in and said "I've noticed something odd. Marcus won't eat out of a bowl". I explained that he won't at home either and to put the food on the floor. He went back and then came back in another few minuets. "Let's see if he will eat with you in here, he must just be scared or nervous since he's not eating". He put Marcus down with all the different foods and left us alone for 10 min. When he came back he said "Still nothing?" with a shocked look on his face. I tried to explain again that he doesn't enjoy eating anything. I think he finally believed me. I told him how I have to hand feed every meal or make it a game by throwing each piece one at a time like fetch. We did rule out a collapsed trachea and liver shunt. His creatin (sp?) levels were low. I think he said that had to do with the kidneys? (If that's wrong, I was a bit confused). He put him back on baytril for the next two weeks. But he said that if Marcus wasn't eating enough that all the antibiotics in the world wouldn't help. He said that he wants him to weigh 3 or 3.5 lbs by the end of next week. WHAT??? It's taken him over 3 months to get from 1 lb 4oz to 2lb 8oz. You think he will put on another pound in the next week. I seriously doubt it. So after everything is said and done, still no answers. We go back next week to discuss it again. The next step is a specialist so that's probably where we will end up. I didn't like the new vet today. He wasn't listening to me and acted as if I were making up everything I said. I'm his mommy and I know what he does and doesn't do. Maybe the dr just doesn't have much experience with these tiny guys. Sorry to go so long, just needed to vent again today. Thanks everyone!

| Have they ruled out kennel croup? I bought a poodle that had it and returned it before we got attached. You are being a normal Yorkie MOM!! Prayers for you and the baby.

| Is that the same thing as kennel cough? Kennel cough has been ruled out.

| I know people will think this is cruel but why don't you force feed him? He has got to eat. Just get a can of food or homemade, measure out his serving and put little bits in his mouth and close it til he swallows.

| We force fed for the first few weeks through a syringe. After that he started to eat little by little. Now he eats, but not on his own. I make sure that he eats what he is supposed to each day. He just makes it hard. We have to make it a game or I feed him piece by piece.

| I doubt that forcing him to eat is the answer since the not eating is a symptom and not the problem. Maybe he has sinus drainage and a sore throat. I assume that his teeth are OK, and they are not hurting when he eats. |

| I'm sorry you are going through this and I understand how stressful and frustrating it can be when your baby is sick. It seems you have a very caring vet, because if it was all about the money they would just keep spinning the wheels to get more $$$ out of you. Her sending you to get a second opinion just goes to show you how much she truly does care. Please do as advised and maybe a new set of eyes will see something that was overlooked. Hope everything goes well and I pray your baby recoverys quickly.

I don't think force feeding is the answer, but if he needs to be at a certain weight I would do whatever I had to to make sure that happens (unless the vet is wrong and his current weight is right). Can you see his ribs?

| You are right, his teeth and gums are good. We don't think its a sore throat since there's no drainage. I'm not sure that not liking to eat is a sympton such as it is just being a super picky eater. Who knows?

| I was wondering is the cough a all day thing or is it just happening in the night or right after eating or playing....? Do you know if they have checked her heart for a heart murmur? does she drool? You said you home cook....so I guess the boiled chicken or G. beef and rice thing didn't help? I had problems with Duncan getting him to eat too, I tried different things and finally one night I went to a Mexican restaurant and order this soup called Cocido. It is soup with beef and veggies, I put some veggies, broth, and sm amount of beef in his food and oh boy did he eat, he wanted more. Once he gain weight I slowly winged him off of it and now his eating his doggie food just fine. I guess what I'm trying to say if just keep trying different things until you find that one thing she'll eat. Oh, as far as your lady vet. that cried with you.....we need a lot more like her Isn't this a great group..... I bet if we keep talking like this we can figure it out

Until recently the coughing had gotten down to just at night and first thing in the morning. He doesn't seem to cough when he eating or playing. Now the coughing is morning, noon, and night. It hasn't gotten back to the point yet where it keeps him up at night though. I hope he doesn't return to that point as it was awful for all of us. You are right, we do need more vets like her out in the world.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Hi, just read thru this thread. I'm sorry you are going thru this with your baby. So he has a cough and he doesn't like eating. Anything else going on with him? having a low creat shouldn't be a problem. if it was high then there would be something more to go on. What kinds of foods have you tried getting him to eat? maybe try getting him the crappiest but tastiest food out there like caesars or mighty dog just to see if he'll eat it? Have you thought of trying raw food (pre-made or prey model)?
