| Yorkie Pregnancy I have an 8 month old female yorkie who just came into her 1st heat; I'm worried that my 3 year old male yorkie may have bred to her. I am worried for her age that she is not ready to have puppies yet. I took her to the vet and they said she should be fine. However I feel very stressed about this and don't anything bad to happen due to her being to young. Does anyone have any advice? |

| Hi & Welcome to YT. I don't know anything about Yorkie pregnancy. My two girls are spayed. Somebody who breeds will see this and get back to you. How big is she? and how big is your male? Good Luck and when you get a chance post pictures of your dogs, we like to see pictures.

| Yes I have three yorkies; two females and a male; my oldest female is fixed to and did not come into her first heat until she was over a year old; so we were shocked when our little Lexie came into heat so quick! This was not expected. Lexie (the one I am afriad may be pregnant weighs 4.5 lbs; Boomer (the possible dad) weighs 4.0 lbs. It worries me. I am thinking of going ahead and having her fixed now. I'm just now sure if it is OK since she may be pregnant. My dogs are my kids and I worry to death about them! I would love to post pictures. I'm new to this and have not figured out how yet. Thank you for responding so quickly!

| I am not going to go over the"why they weren't separated", etc. etc. I am sure you are aware of all of that. I will say, please work closely with your vet. 8 months is extremely young and if you were not planning to breed her, you may want to talk to your vet about spaying her now. Yes, if she is pregnant it will abort the babies. And I can understand how some people would have objections to that. But it also could kill your baby having puppies this young. How much does she weigh? How much does your 3 year old weigh? If he is bigger than her, she may to have a c-section to have the puppies. It is not an ideal situation to be in. With close care by your vet she may be able to have them, but I have to warn you it may be very risky. By the way, how long ago did her heat start? Is she receptive to him? Just in case she may not be pregnant, I would do everything possible to keep them seperate. I really hope she isn't pregnant, and I am sure you do too. I wish I could help more, but all I can say is to work very closely with your vet if she is. Good luck. Sonya

| I see you have answered about thier weights before I got my answer posted. If you do decide to continue the pregnancy, if is good your male is smaller. But still it is extremely hard on a female having babies that young. Sonya

| Thank you for replying. We are thinking a lot about having her spayed. Keeping them seperated is much easier said than done. I LOVE my dogs more than anything in the world and they both had diapers on at the time of this happening. I did everything I knew to do. Keeping them at seperate houses is impossible. I don't trust anyone else with my dogs!! Lexie is about 1.5 weeks into her heat. She has not been backing up to him...she actually has been trying to bite him. I appreciate your advice! I will have to think very hard about this!

| Hi Lindsey I am wondering why you think they may have tied? Did you see them? If she isn't receptive to him, they most likely did not tie. I know how hard it is to keep them seperated AND DIAPERS AND BELLY BANDS won't keep them apart. They KNOW how to get around them when they want to and believe me, they WILL want to. Is it possible to crate one? If not, I would definitely keep them in seperate rooms with the doors closed. 1 1/2 weeks into her heat is "prime" time for her to allow him to tie with her. Sonya

| Yes I'm afrad I did see them "tie." Yes I learned the hard way that diapers and belly bands don't work! It is possible to crate one of them, but I feel so bad! It looks like I do not have a choice. I hate to keep them apart but I will just be sure to give both of them extra special time! They both sleep in my bed so one of them is not going to be happy with me! Thanks again for helping!

| I would go ahead an have her spayed within the next couple weeks right after she goes out of heat. Even if she is pregnant, she won't be very far along at all and the puppies will have barely developed. Since you did not plan to breed I'd definitely spay her very soon. Just for the future - female dogs can go into their first heat by 6 months, although some may not have their first heat until a year...it's always recommended to spay them by 6 months before they go into their first heat.

| Hmm. I am sorry to hear that you did see them tie. I would still crate one of them. They won't like it, but in the off chance that she isn't pregnant it is best to keep them seperated. Sounds like you have a lot to think about on this one. Poor little sweetie... I wish you luck on your desicion, Sonya

| I was in a forum with one lady that used to breed, her last litter, she lost the mother dog, and never did come back in to the forum, this devastated her..I would get her spayed now, as you could lose your dog, and the babies..if that were me, I couldn't live with myself if something happened to one of my babies.. |
