I know the peepads can be expensive, I got mine from CVS pharmacy in the incontinence section. They were like $12, and they are nice and big and hold up great!

Hi, I hope everything is going Great for you at your new job. It's nice to hear your girls are picking up on the pad training. There are sites that sell washable pads which is so economical in the long run ... http://www.assistedliving-store.com/detail.aspx?ID=409 there are also pad holders, (see amazon.com for low prices on pad holders), in case your girls tend to play with the pads, like my Zander would.
Then there is also the feel of grass... http://www.petapotty.com/PetitePeta.html.

I have read that when transitioning to pad, whether the pad is inside or balcony ... you take the dog on the leash to the pad and tell them to go potty. Most importantly have a cheerio or piece of meat as a reward when they do go, its important to reward the act immediately and they will get going on the pad a lot faster!! If they don't go when you tell them to, keep a good eye on them so that you can redirect if they start to go on the carpet.

I live on the 2nd floor. I have a plastic chicken wire fence that I installed on the balcony. I was nervous when they stuck their little heads through the metal rails but the day Riley went for a stroll on the catwalk (the three inches of wood on the other side of the rails ) I immediately ran to Walmart and put up the little fence.

The pee pad training is difficult; they've always known to go outside. So I take them on the balcony on a leash and restrict their movements so they only have the pee pad as an option and throw a party when it works. It's slow going, though, as my methods only work when they REALLLLLY have to go and can't hold it any longer. Penny's not afraid to go on the balcony, but she wants to choose her own spot. And lil' Miss Riley has finally fully grasped the concept of going outside so now I think she's confused when I take her on the balcony. UGH. She just sits on the pee pad and looks at me like "what?" But she'll make a beeline and pee on the grass if I take her downstairs.

Amen to that!! I can deal with getting up and opening a door. I figure by keeping them in the habit of exiting the house to do their business we shouldn't have any trouble when do have a yard.

Lots and lots of praise and lots of treats when your girls use the pad! It worked with mine. Even though I have a yard, my furbabies don't like getting wet in the rain. So they do both pad and yard.

I put a pad in every room in the beginning and then started narrowing it down. There are now only two pad areas and they do nicely.

oohhh YAY!!! I am working with my boys to use both outside and the pee pads inside! Its a long uphill battle but Im sure someday many many years from now they WILL get it! HAHAHA (they are about 2.5 years old now)

Wow, it got up to 65 here today, that's kind of surprising, I always thought Colorado was cold. I know it's much much colder up in the mountains, but the Denver area's not too bad weather wise. And where I live (Longmont) the weather's even better, we miss much of the snowfall and rain because the mountains divide up the clouds and weather, and both sides just pass us right by. Most of the time.

Not bad, when I can walk around outside in a t-shirt without freezing my butt off, I have no complaints.

Yay for the pee, I haven't seen so many people this excited over pee before. It's cute.

It wasn't a fluke - when I got home from work just now - Miss CHERI used the pad right before my eyes !! yay !! The funny thing was I had the door open to the yard lol - this may not be so hard after all -

Yay mabey Miss Cheri can give Rosi some lessons,Rosi never pottied in the house. but since i got Apollo (he uses a pad and goes outside) Rosi sometimes during the night deceides to go on my Mothers Kitchen throw rug, she will not go on pad
