So so sorry for her loss. I will be thinking of her and her pup. I agree with Lacy's mom...I would look into a necropsy as well as having your baby looked at just to be on the safe side!

I'm sorry for her loss. Cremation seems like a viable option.

As a breeder, I don't advocate rabies vaccinations until yorkie pups are 6 or 7 months of age....Their systems react differently than other breeds. If you have a good vet, that knows toy breeds, they will work with you.

I thought about this baby all night.....since she PM'd me. Said this was the first time her baby had acted this way....the possibility exists that he may have got into something he shouldn't have....

I am SO sorry for your friend. You are truly a good friend to comfort her through this.

My mom actually shocked me recently by suggesting that Ozzie be cremated when the time comes. (I want to be cremated and she has always been fiercely opposed to this. My way of thinking: I've spent my whole life trying to stay out of tight spots. So, the minute I'm dead and can't protest, you're sticking me in a box in the ground?!) Her thought was that I would then have him to put with my own ashes someday which I thought was absolutely precious.

I've had lots of pets and loved 'em all, some more than others. But none of them have ever loved me back as much as this little guy, so it seems a fitting tribute. I had never really thought about that before and Ozzie's 10, so I can imagine how devastating these thoughts are for your friend when she shouldn't have been thinking about this at all yet.

A pet cemetery is another option. My childhood dog (not a Yorkie) is in one. He died in 1985, long before my mother would ever have even considered cremation, much less agreed to it, and we knew we weren't staying in the house we were in at that time so it was the best option.

Thoughts and prayers to you and your friend.

Thank you . I am scared about London but i am going to have her tested. It's better to know and be safe. As for Major they don't have the body anymore, so no they aren't going to have an autopsy done. She is just really sad that he's gone and he can't be brought back so she doesn't even want to know i guess.

I was exactly that way when i was younger, i would cry at the thought of a dead body being burned. But then i realized it's not the body that counts, the body doesn't feel anything cause when they're gone their souls or spirits are in a better place and they are no longer suffering. She said she is going to contact the breeder.

I think he was 4 to 5 months when she got him since he was so small. idk if he was vaccinated but london came from the same place and she wasn't but then again i got london when she was 10 weeks old so maybe he did get the shot since he was older.

There was a very tiny yorkie(Pinochio) that only lived to be 2 and was healthy up until then, just very small. Sometimes the smaller ones just don't make it very long. I hope your friend knows that there was nothing she could have done to prevent it, it just happens.

Also I hope she knows, you can't just catch rabies. They have to be bitten by an animal that has it. It's highly unlikely he was. I've alway said that if my little dogs got rabies it's being bitten that would kill them because they're small, not the actual rabies.
Are you talking about Pinochio the one that was barely a lb? London isn't that small lol She was very tiny when she came, only about a lb at 10 weeks but she def. grew and is about 2.6 lbs now, maybe even more i hope. Major seemed like he wasn't growing at all. When he came he was tiny as well but even a few days ago at 7 mos he still felt like he weighed the same as when he came, maybe a few ounces more and i don't think that's normal. He barely grew. So yes maybe it could have been with his organs or something. Maybe they didn't develop fully. I also thought maybe it was liver shunt..but with liver shunt do they pass so early? In most cases i hear about it the owner finds out a while after they've had it...idk i just don't know how he could have passed so quickly, all in one day.

I agree, it could have been something he ate maybe, she said right before he died he threw up everything in his tummy. He must have been very weak. London got her rabies shot when she was 5-6 mos old...

I am so very sorry for your friend's loss of her puppy.
Is it possible that the little guy got into something like rat poison or
another poison of somekind? Sounds like he got into something to
pass so suddenly.
I am, again, so sorry.

If it isn't too late for a necropsy I hope she considers it. I know it's so hard to think practically in such an awful time but if it was genetic she should be covered by her breeder if she has a health guarantee. Please pass along my condolences. I can't imagine her pain right now.

ETA- I know you said she had relinquished the body but if he hasn't been cremated yet maybe it still isn't too late.

I was thinking the same thing, If it was liver shunt, wouldnt there of been more signs? Or is that something that can come on that quick with smaller babies. still keeping your friend in our prayers.
