| X pen questions We do not have a fence around our backyard, but Gizmo loves to play outside. Our neighbors put up a small fenced area for their poms, but it's a nightmare to mow since it can't be moved. Please know that Gizmo will NEVER be outside unsupervised. This is simply so we can have a safe area to allow him to play off-leash for short periods of time with active supervision. So, I am researching Xpens since I know nothing about them. What size would I need? Which ones can panels be added to in the future to make it bigger? Is a door a necessity? What materials would be best? Can these be moved to mow or transport to a different location? If you have any suggestions or experiences to share, I would appreciate them. Santa keeps asking me what I want for Christmas, and this is all I can think of. Is this a good one? http://www.target.com/Gold-Panel-Exe...x%20pen&page=1 Thanks in advance.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | most pens like this can be added too. i have one like that and i to had thought about getting two more and connecting them so i can make a big one in the backyard for morgan to play in. Then i just bought 3 of these http://www.petco.com/product/100147/...le-Medium.aspx in the small variety (really light weight cable) and connected them to the patio. Much cheaper and she gets to run around without getting out of the yard. She never gets caught up in it or choked by running to the end and stopping short.

| Thanks for the info and the link. I really appreciate it. I really think I want a fence of some sort though since he loves to be off-leash.

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Then those expens are the way to go. I was gonna get three of them and connect them all together to make a bigger area. I already have one that she stays in when i'm at work (in the house of course) they are easy to connect together but i must say a pain in the butt to fold and move. i've dropped them on my food a few times. LOL

| The ex-pens are great, and even keep my two "big" yorkies in. We have one set up around a small ornamental pond in our backyard, it's out there in all kinds of weather, and its held up great. We host "small dog club" in our yard one night a week in the summer, we stretch an ex-pen around the gate to our yard, and it acts like a second, saftey gate when people are coming/going with their furkids. Also, we take one with us when we go places, indoors and out. It works well. One point of caution. DO get one with a door, and only put Gizmo in and take Gizmo out through the door. If he never goes "over the top" he may not see that as a means of escape. It's worked for Bernie, my gate climber. He's never climbed out of an expen OR over our new wooden gate that hubby built for the foyer, and he's always gone in/out through the "door" of both of these. Good luck! Gizmo should love his new "play yard"!

And I would like to be able to host a Waco yorkie meetup eventually, so that's another reason to get an xpen we can add onto. Would the extra large one be too big? Which size is best?

Dog club is a lot of fun...we started up as soon as we got the fence completed in our back yard.

| We have one that looks just about like that from Petco. While I've been training Georgia, it's been great, because I can just stretch it out across the living room, and it's like a huge baby gate. They are kind of a hassle to move, though. They're heavier than you think! Anyways, I'd love to have 2 of them to hook together for the back yard. That's a good idea for Christmas! I do think that you would need 2 of them (esp. if you have more than one dog). Although they're big, the area of one may not be big enough for some good rough and tumble play! |

| We are trying to buy the lot of land beside us, so we are putting off the wooden fence around the backyard until we know how that goes. I would hate to put up a fence only to have to take part of it down in a few months. I know that a fence around the entire back yard would be really ideal. So, if we have this for now, I can use your suggestion of using it as a second fence during small dog gatherings when we are able to get a permanent fence for the yard. Thanks for the size info.

Ex-pens. Good luck. I hope you get everything you want for Christmas. P.S. It would be great to have your expen along for the yorkietalk meetup, lol.

| Yep I would get two. I have two similar to that but made by precision. I love mine! I have even used them when we had outings at State Parks. They are heavy but not unmanagable

BANNED! | This is great for outside and can have as many additional panels added as you want. You can get it at toys r us or babies r us: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index...ductId=2266978 It is tall enough and sturdy enough to use outside and it won't rust and washes easliy with a hose if needed. I have several of these and highly recommend it! |
