| How far is too far? I have a question or two regarding exercise. I've been trying to get off my excess baby weight, so Chuy and I have been taking walks together. Right now, we walk about a mile (just over) a day, and it's a pretty fast pace. He's on a long lead attached to his harness, and it allows him to take time to run ahead, sniff, pee, whatever, and it seems to work. I'd like to add another mile or so (again, just over) to our walk, but I don't want to hurt Chuy. Here is the question. At a brisk pace, how far is too far for him? Should I break it up into two walks, one in the am and one in the pm, or just consolidate them? What are your experiences with walking your small babies? Ok, so there's more than one question involved, lol. I just worry, because Chuy is small, around 5 pounds, and I don't want to hurt him, but he loves our walks as much as I do. TIA for any advice.

| I wish I knew the answer to that. I am wanting my Bruiser to loose some weight and wonder how far of a walk is too far? I hope you get some good answers that we both can use.

| i dont have any medical advice or experience for this, but i would think that you can increase it gradually and see how he handles it. if he enjoys the walk and doesnt get tired and still has energy left over, then increase it a little bit every few days and see how he reacts. if he ever gets sluggish then you would probably want to decrease it slightly again. you dont want to increase it by a mile in one day and find out 3/4 of the way through that is too far for him. i hope someone with a litle more experience post some info for you. good luck! |

| I read up to 6 miles??? I read on a few yorkie books that they are well fit for agility and sports. One of the books mentioned that with proper training yorkies can walk or jog up to 6 miles a day ... it did not mentioned anything about breaking it in 2 halfs , but also mentioned about a yorkie owner who went hycking and his dog was swept away by the windy conditions on top of the mountain... it was found 2 days later walking about the town on the bottom of that mountain... great article!!!! I can not recall it if read those things in a yorkie book or on the yorkie "best dogs series" issue... anyways i found a lot of information about yorkies and exercise in a few diferent books and they seem to be fit for that as long as training and good sense follows.... have a great walk!!!

| I'd just increase it a little each day, and see how he does.
